    • Processes are provided for the oxidation of olefinically unsaturated compounds to oxirane compounds, vic-glycols and vichalohydrins in which the olefinically unsaturated compound, carbon dioxide water and hypohalite are brought into intimate contact so as to form vic-halohydrin, and if desired, exposing the vic-halohydrin to aqueous bicarbonate so as to form oxirane compound and/or vic-glycol. Bicarbonate is formed as by-product in the production of vic-halohydrin and this bicarbonate may be used to convert the vic-halohydrin to oxirane compound or vicglycol. Also carbon dioxide is formed as by-product during the conversion and this is advantageously used to provide carbon dioxide required for the production of the vic-halohydrin. Similarly, the hypohalite is conveniently formed by electrolysis of metal halide derived as by-product of the conversion of vichalohydrin to oxirane compound or vic-glycol.

    • A gas turbine prime mover is comprised of at least one air compressor, a combustion chamber, an oxidation reactor and an expansion turbine. Turbine power is developed by compressing air in said at least one air compressor, injecting a portion of said compressed air directly into the combustion chamber of the expansion turbine wherein combustion is taking place, injecting remaining compressed air into a chemical oxidation reactor wherein an oxidation reaction is taking place, injecting residual gases of the said oxidation reaction into the said combustion chamber, and thence driving a turbine utilizing the products of the said combustion reaction as the working medium for the said turbine.

    • THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR THE RECOVERY OF ETHYLENE OXIDE FROM THE RICH CYCLE GAS RESULTING FROM THE VAPOR PHASE REACTION OF ETHYLENE WITH MOLECULAR OXYGEN UNDER ETHYLENE OXIDE FORMING CONDITIONS. RECOVERY IS EFFECTED BY SCRUBBING THE RICH CYCLE GAS WITH A NON-AQUEOUS LIQUID ABSORBENT IN A DRY SYSTEM AT CRYOGENIC CONDTIONS AND THEREAFTER STRIPPING THE ASORBENT FROM ETHYLENE OXIDE ABSORBATE WHICH IS THEN REFINED TO THE DESIRED PRODUCT. ADVANTAGES OF THE PROCESS RESIDE IN THE ELIMINATION OF THE USUAL GYCOL MAKE ACCOMPANYING RECOVERY IN AN AQUEOUS SYSTEM AND IN THE ABTENTION OF HIGH ETHYLENE OXIDE CONCENTRATIONS IN THE LIQUID PHASE. THE INVENTIVE PROCESS MAY ADVANTAGEOUSLY PROVIDE AN ABOSORBENT INVENTORY FOR CONTINOUS PROCESS OPERATION BY CONDENSATION AND RECYCLING OF OVERHEAD ABSORBENT FROM THE STRIPPER. THE INVENTION IS OF PARTICULAR VALUE IN AN ETHANE BALLASTEDHIGH PURITY OXYGEN SYSTEM UTILIZING LIQID ETHANE AS ABSORBENT; THE HIGH ETHANE PARTIAL PRESSURES MAY BE AVAILED OF TO RAISE THE TEMPERATURE LEVEL OF THE REFRIGERATION REQUIRED AND THEREBY REDUCE ITS COST.
