摘要： A pressure reducing control valve assembly for feeding an aeration fluid stream to a flotation tank includes a pair of overlapping discs, one having a central opening and affixed to an end of a tube, and the other imperforate and outwardly movable away from the surface of the fixed disc to define a valve opening having a predetermined land width. Optimum size of air bubbles for the objective desired is obtained by controlling the dimensions of a shear zone established by the land width within which the fluid stream is intensely turbulent for a short period of time, thereby causing air bubbles to form and then be discharged immediately into the liquid within the tank without having had time to coalesce.

摘要： A method for operating an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant which utilizes rotating contactors that are partially submerged in the wastewater in the aeration tank of the activated sludge plant. The rotating contactors provide a fixed film media for the growth of biological life that is present in the recycled activated sludge in the aeration tank. The result is a more active biological coating on the fixed film media than is found on such media when used as a separate secondary treatment. In the preferred embodiment, the energy to rotate the contactors is supplied by the same compressed gas that is normally introduced below the surface of the wastewater in the aeration tank of the conventional activated sludge system.

摘要： Waste water containing suspended biologically active sludge and circulating in an endless path in a vessel is aerated by withdrawing a stream of the water and recycling it to the vessel in the form of a plurality of downwardly directed jets which penetrate the water surface and thereby entrain air in the water. The jets are directed onto the water surface at an angle of less than 60.degree. and the horizontal component of the motion of the jets is substantially parallel to the recirculation path of the main body of water at the point of impact. The jets are divided regularly over the water surface of the vessel and the energy being imparted to the total number of water jets being at least 2 W per m.sup.3 of water contained in the vessel.

Baffles capture and temporarily hold the resulting gas to prolong periods of aeration in the oxygen. Various vertical arrangements of baffles capture the gas escaping from the next lower baffles in a manner which assists in displacing slow moving water while resisting premature loss of oxygen to fast moving water.
