    • A sweep conveyor assembly is provided for use in a silo or granary (70) having a floor (71), a generally cylindrical wall (72) upstanding from the floor (71) and a discharge apparatus (1) for discharging material (74) from a centre of the floor (71) to an exterior location. The sweep conveyor assembly has a sweep conveyor (S) for transporting material (74) inside the silo (S) or granary towards the centre of the floor (71) where it can be discharged by the discharge apparatus (1), a holder (H), and a link mechanism (8) for connecting the sweep conveyor (S) to the holder (H), and in turn having a connection link (L) with a first end (83) and a second end (84). The first end (83) is connected to the holder (H) at a fixed pivot point and the sweep conveyor (S) is connected to the second end (84) of the connection link (L) at a movable pivot point. The connection link (L) rotates about the fixed pivot point, forming a first angle (α) between the connection link (L) and the holder (H), and the sweep conveyor (S) rotates about the movable pivot point, forming a second angle (β) between the sweep conveyor (S) and the connection link (L). The link mechanism (8) controls a ratio between the first angle (α) and the second angle (β), with a magnitude of the first angle (α) and second angle (β) controlled by an angular position of the sweep conveyor (S).

    • A rail fastener orienter is provided for orienting rail fasteners to a desired orientation, the fasteners having a head, an opposite tip and a shank connecting the head to the tip, and being sequentially provided to the orienter in one of a head right, head left, head up and head down orientation. The orienter includes a frame having an upper end and an opposite lower end, and defining a track with an inlet adjacent the upper end, and an outlet adjacent the lower end, the track dimensioned for slidingly and rotatingly accommodating the shank. At least one stage holder is provided for accommodating the fastener in the track as the head is at least partially engaged by at least one bumper for repositioning to a desired one of the orientations, such that the fastener reaches the outlet in the desired orientation after axial rotation.

    • An apparatus is provided for forming tobacco rod portions of a smoking article. A conveyor unit is configured to receive a continuous stream of the tobacco material and to transport the continuous tobacco material stream along an elongate path for formation of the continuous tobacco material stream into a continuous tobacco rod, wherein the conveyor unit is housed in a conveyor housing. A suction system is in fluid communication with the conveyor housing through a suction port and is configured to apply suction to the conveyor housing via the suction port so as to draw the continuous tobacco stream into engagement with the conveyor unit. A wear resistant member is engaged with a wall of the conveyor housing and defines the suction port, wherein the wear resistant member is configured to resist wear from interaction with particles associated with the tobacco material.

    • The bucket conveyor system is made up of buckets which are pivotally suspended between two chains and run around an endless circuit. The claims are made up of links being connected by pins in elongated holes. This chain can be compressed to make its length less than when it is under tension. The chain is compressed at the loading station to force the buckets into direct contact with each other and allow continuous 10 loading. At the discharge station the chain is put under tension to space the buckets and allow them to be rotated through 360.degree. to empty out their contents. Guides are positioned at the areas where the chain is under compression to stop buckling from occurring. The system is driven by a motor and sprockets which also control the compression or tension of the chain.
