摘要： A device is provided, for automatically illuminating a mailbox upon opening. A small box illuminating assembly is secured to the inside of a mailbox door and changes position as the door is opening and closed. The box illuminating assembly includes a light source, such as an LED, a power source, preferably a battery, and a tilt-actuated switch, all housed within a small container. When the mailbox door is opened, the tilt-actuated switch closes to activate the light source and illuminate the inside of the mailbox. Preferably, the light source is disposed at an acute angle to the door, so as to direct its light into the mailbox when the door is opened sufficiently to allow the inside of the box to be examined.

摘要： A pass through closure and delivery device permitting material to be safely passed through a slot in a partition or prison cell door. A container having first and second openings and first and second doors associated with each opening is disclosed for mounting on a partition or cell door having a slot therethrough. Each door on the container includes a latch that is operable from only one side of the cell door. A cam-operating attaching mechanism allows the container to be releasably mounted to a pair of track members affixed to the cell door with the slot therebetween. Using the pass through delivery device and the method of the present device, food or other materials can be safely delivered to an inmate inside a locked cell by mounting the container of the pass through delivery device on the cell door with one of the openings adjacent the first door covering the slot in the partition. The second door is then opened, allowing a guard or delivery person to insert a food tray or other materials to be delivered into the container. The second door is then latched shut and the first door is then opened to allow the prisoner access to the food or other materials through the cell door slot and the first opening in the container. After the inmate removes the food or material from the container, the first door is again shut and the container can be removed from the cell door.

摘要： An interlocking door seam provides a stronger seam for double doors, making them less subject to attack by prybars and the like. Particularly for central mail stations (CMS) and central box units (CBU), double doors present there are subject to attack by prybars and the like that force the locks and allow thieves to rifle the contents of the enclosed mail boxes. Attachment of interlocking door seam [of the present invention] to the first edge of the first double doors protects that first edge from prybar attacks. The adjoining edge of the second double door then releasably fits into a convex strip that protects the adjoining edge of the second double door, thereby protecting it from prybar attack. The interlocking door seam allows normal operation of the double doors while decreasing the risk to the central mail station of prybar attack at the seam between the double doors. Flanges present along the free edge of the convex strip provide easy engagement of that free edge. Gaps between such flanges accommodate shelving inside the central mail station. Construction of the interlocking door seam [of the present invention] by tempered steel or hard and durable materials provides enhanced protection from prybar attack.

The access door is moveable between a door open position, providing access to the housing interior space through the access opening, and a door closed position blocking the access opening. A chute is supported by the housing. The chute comprises an inlet end defining a chute inlet opening adapted for receiving mail and a chute outlet end defining a chute outlet opening opposite the inlet end. A bag comprises an inlet portion defining a bag inlet opening. The bag and chute are moveable relative each other between: 1) a mail deposit mode, in which the chute and the bag cooperate to form an enclosed mail deposit pathway from the chute inlet opening to the bag inlet opening and adapted so that mail deposited through the chute inlet opening falls along the mail deposit pathway through the chute outlet opening and the bag inlet opening into the bag interior space, and 2) a mail collection mode, in which the chute and the bag are spaced apart from each other. The apparatus may be useful in helping to reduce exposure to contaminated mail that may be deposited in the apparatus.
