    • The plastic cover is easily removed from a metal container to allow the plastic cover and the metal container to be separately recycled. The lip that holds the plastic cover to the metal container has two or more circumferential ends which have a lower degree of engagement than the remaining portion of the lip. A press point on the cover which transforms the circular cover into an elliptical shape is positioned on the outside of the cover opposite the circumferential ends and a shoulder is mounted inside the cover opposite the press point. The shoulder bears against the container to assist in removal of the cover. Where the cover has both an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder, a rib is employed to connect the inner cylinder of the cover to the outer cylinder of the cover and to transfer pressure from the press point to the inner cylinder.

    • A spill resistant lid includes a sealing bead in pressure contact with the inside wall of a container to be closed when the lid is in sealing position with respect to the container to substantially seal the container. The lid includes a first cylindrical wall and a second cylindrical wall spaced apart to form a receiving channel for the top of a container to be sealed. A ridge extends into the channel from the first cylindrical wall to hold the lid in place. The sealing bead extends into the channel from the second cylindrical wall. A central lid portion closes the area inside the second cylindrical wall and applies sealing pressure to the bead. In a preferred embodiment a third cylindrical wall in the central lid portion is joined to the second cylindrical wall by a web. The relative positions of the second cylindrical wall, the web, and the third cylindrical wall are deformed when the lid is in sealing position on the container and such deformation causes the bead to apply sealing pressure to the inside container wall. The central lid portion also preferably includes a container bottom platform and container receiving groove or secondary container platform for receiving and holding the bottom of a container stacked on the lid.

    • Plastic trays used for baking shrink when in an oven such that lids which attached to the tray prior to baking no longer fit the tray after baking. Since the shrinkage of the tray is known for the temperature range expected during baking, a lid having two sets of locking tabs at different perimeters can be used to secure the lid to the tray. The first perimeter and locking tabs are used before the tray is baked and the second perimeter and locking tabs used after the tray baked. In this manner a tray with food therein can have a lid secured thereto before baking when the tray is one size and the same lid secured thereto after baking. The lid is removed during baking and reapplied after baking thus protecting the food in the tray before and after baking. Alternatively the tray may have two lid engaging perimeters for attaching the trays to the lids. The first tray perimeter used before baking and the second after baking. The lid would have one perimeter for engaging the tray before and after baking. The location for attaching the trays to the lids can be located anyplace around the trays and lids. The means for attaching the trays to the lids may be by inserting a concave portion into a concave portion, by inserting a portion of the tray or lid under tabs of the lid or tray or any other means of inserting lockingly securing the trays and lids together. The trays and/or lids may change size for a variety of reasons, including thermal expansion and contraction, thermoplastic shrinkage, or load stresses. The dual size containers will fit the lid to the tray before and after the size changes.

    • A food item receiving container. A case defines a receiving space. A lid functions to close the case. Locking wings are integrally formed at edges of the lid, so that they can be pivoted upward and downward. Flange portions are formed on upper end outer surfaces of sidewalls of the case, so that the locking wings are engaged with the flange portions to be maintained in a locked state. An engaging groove is defined on a lower surface of each flange portion. Each locking wing has an elastic engaging part which is formed to be flexed and cover the lower surface of the flange portion when the corresponding locking wing is pivoted downward, and engaging protuberances which are horizontally formed on an upper surface of the elastic engaging part to be engaged with the engaging groove of the flange portion while elastically deforming the elastic engaging part.
