摘要： A desktop binder for converting a plurality of sheets of paper into book form using a flexible binding media, or binder-tape, to attach the book spine and covers. The binder-tape is pre-coated with a hot melt adhesive and includes indicia that the binder can decode. The binder can utilize binder-tape both in roll or sheet format where the width of said binder-tape is equal to the long bound edge of the book. The binder-tape is cut to the desired size automatically by a mechanism within the binder. A method is presented for preprinting a spine title on the sheet form of binder-tape. The book is gripped by a roller mechanism that shuttles the book through the various process stages. The completed book may be ejected either from the opening into which it was inserted or, alternatively, transferred through a secondary opening communicating with a book-stacking unit or conveyor.

摘要： The invention is directed to amphipathic polymeric particles that serve as both the dispersant and the binder in water based inks, ink compositions containing these particles, and methods for making the particles. The polymeric particles contain both hydrophilic and hydrophobic moieties with a pre-determined structure, and have an average diameter of 50 to 500 nm. The amphipathic polymeric particles may be prepared by a side-chain conversion method or a polymerization process involving an ATRP step, with or without a cross-linking agent. This invention improves the stability of polymer and inks by both ionic and steric stabilization of the suspended polymer particles.

摘要： A method and apparatus for folding a single sheet of paper into a booklet. The method includes depositing adhesive along a linear path on the single sheet of paper and folding the sheet by making a plurality of folds parallel to a first direction, thereby forming a plurality of interconnected panels. The lateral edges of the panels are cut off so that the panels are no longer interconnected. A fold is made along a line coincident with the linear path to form the booklet. The booklet may be further folded with close folds to obtain a compact outsert. Apparatus for performing the folding patterns is also provided.

摘要： The present invention pertains to a device of compact design for preparing adhesive bindings of blocks and brochures as well as to a process that can be carried out by means of a device according to the present invention, wherein it has a linear conveying system with clamping rails moving to and fro, whereby the blocks are conveyed in at least two steps. Processing operations are performed on the block during the resulting phases of movement and stop phases. The clamping rails have different shapes at the contact surface toward the block depending on the requirement of the stations fed by them. The complete unit makes possible the universal production of commemorative volumes, brochures and folded brochures and comprises for this purpose the application of end papers, the folding and the application of covers. The end papers are fed flush to the finished spine after the processing of the spine. The gluing of the block spines is carried out at right angles to the height of the block during the stopping of the block by a lifting movement of the gluing mechanism. The feeding of slip-fold strips is coupled with the lifting movement of the gluing mechanism. The delivery is carried out gently by means of a rotatable system of clamping stations.
