    • In a pump intermittently rotated and controlled by a motor, the motor, etc. rise in temperature and ink supply is unstable when an operation of the pump is stopped in a magnetizing state. Therefore, the invention resides in a pump for a printing machine characterized in that the pump has a base; a cylinder having a suction hole and a discharge hole opened in positions different from each other in phase on the inner circumferential face of a main hole; a plunger fitted to an opening side of the main hole of the cylinder so as to be axially moved and rotated from an end tip of the main hole and closing the suction hole or/and the discharge hole; a motor attached to the base such that a rotating central line of a rotating shaft crosses that of the plunger at a predetermined crossing angle; a transmission mechanism constructed by an arm and a connection member; and retrogression preventing means for arranging the plunger temporarily stopped at a discharging stroke during an operation of the pump intermittently operated by the motor such that the plunger is not retreated and not angularly displaced in a direction reverse to a predetermined operating direction.

    • An improved ink cartridge dispensing valve system for use with a printing press ink cartridge is provided. The valve system works on the same principle as a ball valve to automatically dispense ink when subjected to pressure. The valve system includes an attachment post and an attachable nozzle. The attachment post is an integral part of the dispensing end of the ink cartridge and is recessed so that the cartridge can be easily shipped without damaging the attachment post. The attachable nozzle fits over the attachment post and opens or closes depending on whether pressure is placed on it by the ink in the cartridge.

    • A method of preventing an ink from increasing in viscosity is praticed by repeatedly performing the steps of supplying provided from an ink supply-aspiration nozzle to an ink reservoir provided between an inking roll and a squeeze roll pressed into contact with the inking roll, moving the nozzle toward one end of the reservoir and causing the nozzle to aspirate a predetermined amount of ink to produce a flow of ink in the reservoir toward the end thereof, and moving the nozzle toward the other end of the reservoir and similarly causing the nozzle to aspirate a predetermined amount of ink to thereby produce a flow of ink toward the other end. A diluting liquid is supplied to the reservoir while performing these steps.

    • An ink pump for a punp inking unit of a rotary printing press utilizes a two piece coupling between the ink pump and an ink pump drive unit. The ink pump is part of a replaceable inking unit while the ink pump drive unit is supported in the frame of the press. The two piece coupling operatively connects the ink pump and the ink pump drive unit. Each piece of the coupling is a permanent magnet. These engage in a non-positive fit to provide a robust coupling.

    • An improved cartridge for dispensing highly viscous fluids in which the nozzle is recessed for ease of packaging, shipping and storing. The cartridge comprises a hollow cylindrical body, a plunger and a dispensing fitment. The cylindrical body holds a supply of extrudable fluid contents such as lithographic ink. The plunger serves as a pneumatically activated piston within the cylindrical body to extrude the contents of the cartridge. The nozzle has an open and a closed position. In the closed position the nozzle does not protrude beyond the top of the dispensing fitment. The dispenser may also include a detachable nozzle extension which, when attached to the nozzle, extends beyond the top of the fitment.
