摘要： The range of stretch-tunability of sinusoidal wrinkled surfaces that are obtained by compression of supported thin films is limited by the emergence of a period-doubled mode at high compressive strains. This disclosure presents a method to suppress the emergence of the period-doubled mode at high strains. This is achieved by compressing pre-patterned supported thin films, wherein the pre-patterns are substantially similar to the natural pattern of the supported thin film system. As compared to flat thin film systems, pre-patterned thin film systems exhibit period doubling behavior at a higher compressive strain. The onset strain for emergence of period-doubling is tuned by altering the amplitude of the pre-patterns.

摘要： Stretch film is treated by passing a web of tackifier-containing, unbloomed thin polymer film through a heater so that the web is heated to a temperature sufficient to cause tackifier bloom prior to the web reaching a next stage in an in-line process. Also, a pattern can be applied to a thin polymer film. An oriented web of thin polymer film is passed across at least one heated roller having the pattern engraved thereon to define face regions and relief regions collectively conforming to the pattern. As the web contacts each roller surface, portions of the web positioned over the relief regions receive less heat than portions of the web positioned over the face regions, thereby causing the respective portions of the web to undergo differential, heat-induced shrinkage which imparts the pattern to the thin polymer film.

摘要： A method for forming a surgical clip and fixture for use therein includes molding a polymeric clip body, the clip body having hinged legs, the polymer of the clip body being substantially amorphous. The clip body can then be moved to a desired configuration while being subjected to a temperature above the glass transition temperature. The molded clip body is then heated to a temperature within the crystallization range for a period of time sufficient to impart at least 20% crystallinity thereto to impart a spring back property. Also disclosed herein is a fixture for forming a surgical clip in accordance with this method.
