    • A clamping assembly to hold a woodworking knife in place in a woodworking machine. The clamping assembly comprises a clamping component comprising a body and an actuator. The body has three discrete contact positions distributed thereon: 1) a fulcrum located generally at one end, 2) a knife abutting portion located generally at the other end, and 3) a bearing surface located elsewhere. The actuator is for applying a clamping force to the body along a clamping axis located intermediate of the knife abutting portion and the fulcrum. The fulcrum is a surface having a normal that is at an angle to the clamping axis. The bearing surface is a surface wherein a line normal to the bearing surface intersects the line normal to the fulcrum at a position outside of the clamping component at a location farther askew of the clamping axis than the fulcrum.

    • A wood chipper knife holder assembly for a power driven rotor head has at least one opening in its wood confronting surface for the knife holder assembly which includes a mount block. A counter-knife receiving surface opposite the wood confronting surface of the rotor head is provided on the mount block for a counter-knife and a reversible knife blade is received on the counter-knife. A clamp member secures to clamp the knife in a projecting cutting position. The clamp member and knife have transversely spaced openings and pins which permit 180° repositioning of the knife to present a fresh knife cutting edge, and the clamp member has a transverse surface for receiving the rearward cutting edge of the knife.

    • A stump grinding apparatus having a tooth which is automatically retained with respect to, and appropriately gauged from a pocket. The tooth includes an elongated shank portion having front and rear ends and a head portion integrally extending from the front end of the shank portion. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a pair of longitudinally spaced holes are formed through the shank portion adjacent its rear end. A pin may be inserted through one of the two holes formed through the shank portion, with the chosen hole being dependent upon whether the shape of the pocket being used is either entirely round or partially round with a straight rear edge. When the tooth is securely clamped to the stump grinding wheel via the pocket, the pin is positioned in abutting relation to the rear end of the pocket, thereby preventing the tooth from moving axially with respect to the pocket. In addition, by choosing the appropriate hole through which to insert the pin, dependent upon the shape of pocket being utilized, when the pin is positioned in abutting relation to the rear edge of the pocket, the gauging distance of the cutting bit from the front edge of the pocket will be automatically set.
