    • A lapping compound mixing and supply system wherein lapping compound is recirculated to the mixing vessel when not supplied to the lapping chamber of a machine tool such as a gear lapping machine. Lapping compound is pumped at about a first range of pump speeds to the lapping chamber, however, when no lapping is being performed, lapping compound is pumped at about a second, decreased range of pump speeds through a recirculating conduit and introduced into the mixing vessel along the conical bottom surface of the vessel. The introduction of lapping compound in this manner, along with the action of an rotating impeller in the vessel, provides improved mixing of the lapping compound and homogenizes the temperature thereof.

    • An apparatus for grinding and lapping sealing surfaces in slide valves and the like in situ or in the workshop has a base plate (21), a drive (6), and a rotatably mounted tool plate (3) which is connected to the drive (6) by a supporting element (4) and coupled to it by a transmission element. The supporting element (b 4) is supported releasably and with adjustable height on the base plate (21) by means of a clamping piece (7) of adjustable height and a guide piece (11; 36). The guide piece (11; 36) is mounted pivotably on the base plate (21). Rigidly connected to the guide piece (11; 36) is a rocker (16) which is adjustable relative to the base plate (21) at one end. The strain occurring when such adjustment is made, in the rocker (16), the support (25) of the correcting element (28), the tool plate (3) or the other components which conduct force and/or moment, is assessed as a measure of the contact pressure of the tool plate (3). The strain may be indicated by a digital display (32) or a micrometer dial gauge (39).

    • To be able to control the admission of compressed air or liquid to a machine in a hand tool, the working medium can be admitted to the machine through a handle with a built-in valve. By turning the handle (1) the valve opens or closes. The valve body itself (7,9) is secured to a stay in the form of a bolt (10) and a pipe (8) screwed into the bottom of the handle casing (1), whereas the valve seat (14) is formed as a recess in a bushing (2) being stationary relative to the casing. The handle has an oblique track (4) wherein a bolt (3) secured in the bushing moves the casing (1) and thereby the valve body relative to the bushing (2) when the handle is turned. When the handle is released in the open position of the valve (FIG. 3), the pressure exerted by the medium will move the casing so as to close the valve since the area of the casing is larger than that of the bush (2). The machine can thereby be safely and reliably disconnected by releasing the hold on the handle. The valve can be used for a hand grinder with a U-shaped handle pipe with handle ends and a hollow spindle situated between the handle ends, an air machine being arranged in the spindle. The spindle has a number of slotted grinding discs, and a pressure medium is admitted to the machine through passages in the handle pipe. A simple and reliable hand grinder which can efficiently grind deep profiles is thereby obtained.

    • A machine is provided for grinding the top surface of an annular body. Theachine includes a block which is receivable within the annulus of the body. The top of the block has a central hole. A plurality of rods slidably extend transversely through the block with a first end of each rod extendable into the hole and a second end of each rod extendable from a side of the block opposite the inside curved surface of the annular body. A plurality of arcuate pads are provided wherein each pad has an arc which conforms to the curve of the inside of the annular body. Each pad is connected to a respective second end of each rod. A bolt is threaded into the central hole of the block, the bolt having a bottom tapered portion for engaging the first ends of the rods so that when the bolt is threaded into the block the rods will be forced outwardly to engage the arcuate pads with the inside curved surface of the annular body. A turntable is slidably mounted on the top of the block. A grinding device is mounted on the turntable and has a downwardly facing grinding surface for engaging the top surface of the annular body. A device is provided for moving the grinding surface toward and away from the top surface of the body.
