    • A chuck is provided having a body, oblique guides converging toward a forward portion of the body, and a groove around the body. A slidable jaw within each guide includes outer threads. A rotatable mechanism engaging the groove includes threads for engaging the jaw threads. A toothed member extends around the body. An inner sleeve extends over and rotates the mechanism, while moving the jaws toward the forward portion. An outer sleeve extends over the inner sleeve. A metal intermediate sleeve between the inner and outer sleeves engages two spring members engaged with the inner sleeve. A first torque application rotates the intermediate sleeve with respect to the inner sleeve and causes one of the spring members to ratchet with the toothed member. A greater second torque application to the intermediate sleeve causes the other spring member to prevent rotation between the intermediate and inner sleeves.

    • A chuck comprises: a chuck body attached to a spindle of a machine tool; master jaws attached to the chuck body along the normal of the chuck body and formed with T-shaped grooves extending along the length thereof; T nuts having tops and trunks, the tops being slidably fitted in the T-shaped grooves of the master jaws; gripping claws having work holding surfaces and grooves for engagement with the trunks of the T nuts; and eccentric shafts inserted into holes formed across the T nuts and the gripping claws and used for attaching the gripping claws to the T nuts. The holes extend across the T nuts and the gripping claws which are engaged with one another. The gripping claws have large reshaping margins at work holding surfaces thereof.

    • An expendable jaw combination for use in connection with a chuck for a lathe, milling machine, or the like to hold work stock. A receiver member is attached to the chuck, and an engagement member is provided in an elongated recess in the receiver member for engaging the stock. The receiver member is preferably constructed of tool material, such as tool steel, while the engagement member may be made of a lower cost material which is easier to work, such as mild steel. After the engagement member is used one or more times, it may be reworked or expended. Locking means are provided for securing the engagement member to the receiver member during use.

    • A jaw assembly for a jaw chuck for holding a workpiece to the spindle of a machine, such as a lathe, includes an intermediate coupling member that engages a master jaw slot formed in a master jaw which is disposed in a radial guide formed in the body of the chuck. A retaining mechanism secures the intermediate coupling member within the master jaw slot. A top jaw is configured to be connectively engaged with the intermediate coupling member by inserting the intermediate coupling member into a top jaw slot. The top jaw is held securely to the intermediate coupling member, and, accordingly, to the master jaw, when the retaining mechanism is tightened. During top jaw change-out the retaining mechanism is released, thereby permitting the top jaw to be disengaged from the intermediate coupling member while still loosely retaining the intermediate coupling member within the master jaw slot. A new top jaw is installed by merely engaging it with the intermediate coupling member and then re-tightening the retaining mechanism.

    • An anti-slip type electric drill chuck mainly includes a body which is obliquely provided with three pawls for clamping a drill head. The outer surface of one end of the three pawls is provided with a threaded surface for engaging a tapered threaded hole in a bearing nut, which has an outer end with teeth, an end portion provided with a ball ring. A check nut protective sleeve encloses the ball ring and bearing nut, and has elastic pointed portions engage the teeth. A drive annular block engages the inner wall of the bearing nut. A front housing sleeve engages the drive annular block and surrounds the aforesaid components. The front housing sleeve is rotated by hand to advance or retract the pawls to thereby loosen or tighten drill head. When the pawls clamp the drill head, the check nut protective sleeve stabilizes the bearing nut to prevent slippage thereof.
