    • The helical rotary cutter includes a cylinder with a plurality of grooves that extend from one cylinder end to the other end. Each groove has a leading groove wall and a trailing groove wall. The leading groove is in a first wall plane that extends outwardly away from the rotor axis in the direction of rotation and intersects the rotor axis.     • A rotatable milling tool includes a body, and at least one set of circumferentially spaced cutting members that are intersected by a common plane oriented perpendicularly to a longitudinal center axis of the body. The set of cutting members includes at least three cutting members mounted in an envelope surface of the body. Each cutting member includes a flank surface and a cutting edge disposed adjacent to the flank surface. Each cutting edge has axially spaced apart ends. The flanked surface of each cutting member forms a clearance angle with a tangent extending through the respective cutting edge. The flank surface of the insert has a larger clearance angle than the flank surfaces of at least two other inserts in the same set. During a milling operation, the cutting members with smaller clearance angles tend to produce stability and vibration-free rotation, while the cutting member having the larger clearance angle ensures a high precision (smooth) machining.

    • A tool assembly includes a support body, a clamping device, and a tool holder clamped in a groove of the support body. A stopper block is disposed in the groove and abuts against the tool holder for positioning the tool holder along an axis. The stopper block is held in place by a wedge-type stopper clamp which applies a clamping force to the stopper block in a direction transversely of the axis. A wedge-type holder clamp is provided for applying a clamping force to the tool holder in a direction transversely of the axis. The stopper clamp is secured to the support body by a single fastening bolt, and the holder clamp is attached to the support body by a single fastening bolt. Each of the fastening bolts is provided with a part that forcefully pushes the respective clamp away from the support body in response to loosening of the fastening bolt. The arrangement is such that the tool holder can be inserted and removed without completely removing the holder clamp or its fastening bolt.

    • A rectangular blade-type cutting tool having two edge-on cutting inserts mounted at one end of the blade in a staggered formation with their cutting edges partially overlapping. This type of cutting blade finds particular application in disc-type cutting tool assemblies used for cutting pipes. In such a cutting tool assembly the blade-type cutting tools in accordance with the present invention are equally peripherally distributed on an end face of the cutting tool assembly with the operative cutting edges of each of cutting blade inwardly directed and equally distanced with respect to the axis of rotation of the cutting tool assembly. With such a cutting tool assembly it is only necessary to cut the thickness of a pipe without the necessity of passing across its entire diameter allowing for quick and economical cutting of the pipe.

    • An arbor 1 having an axis of rotation 2 comprises a body member 3 having end 4 with flats so that it may be drivably secured in a spindle or chuck of a machine or machine tool. The body member 3 has a co-axial socket 5 provided at its opposite, cutting end 6 to receive a shank of a rotary cutter (not shown), the shank having, in the conventional manner, at least one flat. The arbor 1, further comprises a collar 7 carried at the cutting end 6, which collar 7 is biassed by a torsion spring 8 to an active position and is manually rotatable, within limits, against the spring bias, to an inactive position. A cam surface 9 is provided internally of the collar 7 and a segmental key 10 which is biassed radially outwardly by a pair of coil compression springs 11 to a cutter release position, has a flat, abutment surface 12, and an opposed, curved, displacement surface 13 engageable by the cam surface 9, and is also carried by the cutting end of the arbor, which key 10 is upon suitable manual rotation of the collar permitted to be displaced under its spring bias to the cutter release position, in which the key 10 is clear of the socket 5 to permit insertion, or removal, of a shank of a cutter into, or from, the socket. Upon manual release of the collar 7 permitting rotation of the collar under its spring bias, to an active position, at least the abutment surface 12 of the key 10 penetrates a portion of the socket 5 to engage a, or the, flat of an inserted cutter shank, with the cam surface 9 of the collar maintaining engagement with the displacement surface 13 of the key 10 to maintain the key 10 in its active position.
