    • There is disclosed a method of manufacturing a chamber formation plate of a liquid ejection head. The chamber formation plate includes a first region formed with at least recess portions to be pressure generating chambers communicated with nozzles from which liquid droplets are ejected by pressure generated in the pressure generating chambers. A metal plate and a forging die are provided. A reference part is provided on the metal plate. The reference part defines a relative position between the first region and the forging die. At least one deformation absorber is provided at a second region of the metal plate where is between the first region and the reference part. At least one plastic working is performed by the forging die, with respect to the first region to form at least the recess portions, while plastic deformation of the metal plate caused by the plastic working is absorbed by the deformation absorber.

    • Methods for manufacturing a press formed article (22) may include half die cutting a substantially flat material (1, 10) by press forming, thereby forming a first processed material (10null) having a first intermediate press formed article (16) defined therein. The half die cutting step is preferably performed while simultaneously compressing the central portion of the material in order to induce outward plastic flow within the first intermediate press formed article. These methods optionally may include pressing the first intermediate press formed article back into the first processed material, thereby forming a second processed material (10null) having a second intermediate press formed article (20), and separating the second intermediate press formed article from the second processed material, thereby forming a final processed material (10nullnull) and an unfinished press formed article (22null).

    • A compound indenter for metal coldwork, and a method of employing such tooling. The compound indenter tool is used to produce deformation in a workpiece structure, to provide a selected beneficial residual stress profile in the workpiece, in order to provide high fatigue life structures in a minimum number of manufacturing steps. Preferably, action of a compound indenter causes deformation of the workpiece, causing dimples in the workpiece. By optimized use of the method, a relatively uniform beneficial residual stress profile is provided at both the surface and at the midplane apertures in a workpiece, so as to improve overall fatigue life. An improved, compound indenter tool profile shape is described, having a first, elongate indenter with a shaped indenter surface portion, and a second shaped indenter surrounding the first indenter and forming an annular shoulder recessed from the surface portion of the first indenter. Additionally, a foot having a bottom portion can be used to confiningly surround the second indenter during application of force to the surface of a workpiece, to prevent surface deformation.

    • A bond tool is used in semiconductor package to break a lead at a notch formed thereon and then bonds the broken lead to a die pad. In an embossing-type bond tool, an end thereof is provided with a projected portion for vertically pressing against the lead to form a transversely extended groove thereon. In a scissor-type bond tool, an end thereof is formed into two opposite sharp blades for horizontally cutting the lead at two lateral edges thereof to provide two symmetrical cuts. Unlike the conventional notches that are formed on the lead during the complicate forming process of the lead, the groove and the symmetrical cuts are easily formed on the straight lead without notch to provide a weak point at reduced manufacturing cost. The difficulties in forming the conventional notches on the lead due to the highly precise lead windows, lead width, and lead pitch can therefore be avoided and thus improve the yield for manufacturing of lead bond substrates.

    • A passive-adaptive indentor is provided for cold working a material that includes a material surface and a depth extending in a direction that is perpendicular to a direction of the material surface. The passive-adaptive indentor has a first member that includes a first working end that is configured to create a first residual stress field that extends to a predetermined depth in the material. The passive-adaptive indentor also has a second member that includes a second working end that is configured to create a second residual stress field that extends to a generally fixed second depth of the material regardless of the depth to which the first residual stress field extends. A method of using a passive-adaptive indentor for cold working a material is also presented.
