The track sections have complementary engageable latch-release components on the ends thereof for connecting the track sections end-to-end and holding the track sections against separation, automatically in response to longitudinal pushing type abutment of the track sections against each other. In the disclosed embodiment, the latch-release mechanism includes a flexible portion formed integrally with each track section.

    • An educational toy for a child. The toy includes a rectangular frame surrounding a rectangular center area. Tiles are positioned in the center area to fill this area except for one vacant space equal in size to a tile. A pair of grooves are formed in the top surface of each tile with each groove extending from one side edge of a tile to another side edge of a tile with all grooves intersecting the side edges of its tile at the midpoint of each side edge. Some tiles have only straight grooves which intersect while other tiles have only arcuate curves which do not intersect. Turnaround grooves are formed in the rectangular frame. Each turnaround groove opens at its opposite ends into the center area of the frame. The ends of the turnaround grooves are spaced from each other and positioned relative to the sides of the rectangular center area so that the grooves of the tiles can be aligned with the turnaround grooves to form a continuous vehicle path from the tiles onto the rectangular frame and then back onto the tiles. A vehicle is provided to move across the tiles and frame. The vehicle has a pair of guides which extend into the grooves to direct the vehicle along a selected path. A drive axle with a pair of drive wheels is located between the guides. A differential effect to enable the vehicle to transverse curves in the grooves is provided by the drive wheel construction and raised portions on the tiles and frame.

    • The invention set forth pertains to a toy in which a vehicle is moved past one side of a leading station as an object is transferred from the loading station to the vehicle. An inclined ramp is located on the loading station; a carrier is movably mounted on the ramp so as to be capable of being elevated from adjacent to the lower end of the ramp to adjacent to the upper end of the ramp. This carrier includes a platform which supports the object as the carrier is elevated along the ramp. The vehicle is moved along the side of the loading station so as to pass the lower end of the ramp and then to continue toward and beyond the upper end of the ramp, and is provided with a shelf at such a height as to be capable of receiving the object on the platform as the carrier is elevated along the ramp. The carrier and the vehicle are provided with structures which engage one another as the vehicle is so moved so that the vehicle serves to move the carrier along the ramp.

    • A toy vehicle system, such as a battery powered toy railway, comprises a vehicle adapted to run on a base which guides the vehicle. The vehicle has three travelling states, viz. forward, stop and reverse. The base includes at least one switching section provided with a guide adapted to cooperate with a switching element on the vehicle when the vehicle enters said switching section from either direction. The guide may be set for travel in a selected direction or ''''stop'''' and thereby changes over the switching element to correspond to the desired setting unless the switching element is already at that setting when the vehicle enters the switching section. The guide may be movable by means of a lever between three transverse positions corresponding to the three settings, or may be movable between only two of these settings or may have a fixed setting.

    • A toy monorail set is provided including a building for containing the parts to the set and selectively being a component part of the set. The monorail vehicle, building and monorail tracks are all made of sanded hardwood or other suitable smooth and hard material. The vehicle itself includes a cutout and a pair of extension members extending outward from the bottom of the cutout. The cutout has concave sides and the extension members have a flat surface and slanted sides from the back of the cutout to the flat surface so as to allow the vehicle to traverse a curved monorail track course. A smoothing additive, such as wax or paraffin is applied over the flat surface of the extension member and the top, or riding, surface of the monorail track to allow the vehicle to slide over the monorail track. The monorail tracks have semicircular ends with a circular recessed surface on opposite sides at each end. A compressive coupling pad is affixed on each recessed surface so that the monorail tracks may be coupled together. The containing building also includes a fixed monorail track and a plurality of openings to allow the building to be used as a part of the monorail track configuration. Further, the containing building has sliding panels which allow the parts of the set to be stored within the building when the set is not in use.
