摘要： An endoscope suitable for autoclaving in accordance with the present invention has a barrier that separates an interior from an exterior. When the barrier is located at a predetermined position, consideration is taken into a displacement of the barrier between the position of the barrier observed before start of autoclaving and the position thereof observed after completion of the autoclaving during which predetermined pressure is applied and a thermal load is imposed.

摘要： A surgical instrument assembly includes a surgical instrument having a proximal handle (16) for control by the surgeon, the handle being ergonomically configured and having surface depressions (17, 18, 19, 20) to accommodate thumb and finger tips. The handle extends no more than about 5 cm beyond the point of grip so that the surgeon can rotate his/her hand over the end of the handle in unrestricted movement while maintaining the grip between thumb and middle finger. Improvements in the support means for the endoscope telescope and instrument shaft, as well as in the lighting system of the assembly are also disclosed, together with improvements in the mechanisms for moving a distal end of the instrument in the operating zone within a patient.

摘要： A catheter for diagnosing and performing an interventional procedure on tissue has an elongated catheter shaft, and optical fibers, extending through the catheter shaft, for transmitting light to tissue located at a distal end of the catheter and conveying light back from the tissue for analysis by a spectroscopic diagnosis system to determine whether an interventional procedure should be performed on the tissue. An interventional device is located at the distal end of the catheter for engaging tissue diagnosed by the spectroscopic diagnosis system in order to perform the interventional procedure on the tissue. An assembly for imaging and performing an interventional procedure on tissue has an endo scope in combination with an endoscopically insertable catheter having an ultrasound imaging device for imaging a tissue structure located at a distal end of the endoscope so as to enable the depth of penetration of the tissue structure to be displayed, and an endoscopically insertable interventional device for engaging the tissue structure imaged by the ultrasound imaging device.
