    • An apparatus and methods for splitting apart a pomegranate fruit employ a pair of elongated splitting levers and a pivoting connecting mechanism, carried on the pair of elongated levers. Each one of the elongated levers has a penetrating end and a shape configured to enable the pair of elongated levers to be arranged in a substantially closed configuration in contact or contiguous lengthways with one another to form a penetrating structure to enable the elongated levers to be at least partially inserted into a pomegranate. The elongated splitting levers are hingedly connectable at the penetrating ends by the pivoting connecting mechanism which is configured to outwardly pivot the elongated splitting levers from the substantially closed configuration into a substantially open configuration in response to forcing the elongated splitting levers apart about a fulcrum.

    • The present disclosure relates to a working unit or a device that includes a working unit of this type for processing foodstuffs. The working unit can be driven and made to rotate by means of a drive unit of said device. The working unit preferably has at least two working elements that are situated on a working axis and that act in the peripheral direction of said working axis. At least one of the working elements can be pivoted about the working axis in relation to at least one additional working element within a restricted pivoting angle. The pivoting mobility of the blades, which are preferably interspaced and positioned axially one above the other, permits said blades to be brought into a common radial resting position in order to fill the container with the product to be cut, in such a way that practically the entire container volume is exposed and can be filled. The pivoting mobility of the second blade on the bearing axis allows the initial expenditure of energy to be significantly reduced in the start phase, as not all the blades are required to start cutting simultaneously.

    • A cherry pitter includes a container having a removable cherry holder with a plurality of cavities for holding cherries. A mating plurality of cutters is secured to the lid of the container, which is pivotally secured to the container. By rotating the lid downward the cutters are pushed into and through the cherries, pushing the pits into the container. A spring-loaded push-off plate holds the cherries down against the holder as the lid rotates upward again, separating the cherries from the cutters. These and other examples of the invention will be described in further detail below.

    • A suitably dimensioned, hollow, crescent-shaped die with an upstanding handle provides a culinary tool for conveniently and quickly removing all the seeds from a watermelon. Upright side walls on the perimeter of the die engage each of the seed-bearing, crescent-shaped-in-section columns and extract the column as the die is withdrawn at the conclusion of the cutting portion of the cycle. By arranging a portion of the die and side walls in an overlapping relation, the areal extent of the die can be expanded, after withdrawal, to allow the attendant seed-bearing column to drop from the die by gravity. If desired, the overlapping portion can be augmented by slots and a pair of retainer pins to restrict the extent of change of the die area to a predetermined range; and inward shark tooth projections on the side walls can be used to enhance the ability of the side walls to lift the column during die withdrawal. A spring-loaded cross-tong attached to the side walls can serve not only as a handle but also as a die expander to release a seed-bearing column at the conclusion of the seed-removal cycle.
