摘要： A device for use in the humane slaughter of animals has a barrel and a cap arranged for limited reciprocal axial movement and urged to an inoperative position by a spring. A captive bolt is received in the barrel for reciprocal axial movement, the bolt being driven out of the barrel by a driving force provided by an explosive cartridge adapted to be received in a breech in the barrel. The cartridge is fired by striking a firing pin provided in the cap. The cartridge is mounted on a strip movable in response to a manual operation, and a registration device is provided between the strip and the cap to locate the cartridge relative to the open breech in the inoperative position. Movement of the barrel relative to the cap against the force of the spring places the cartridge in the breech and causes it to strike the firing pin to fire the cartridge and operate the captive bolt, the spring then returning the barrel and the cap to the inoperative position to open the breech and allow movement of the strip to remove the spent cartridge.

The bolt is held in a cocked position against the biasing of a spring and is driven lengthwise of the barrel by a force applied thereto by the spring when the bolt is released. The tool further includes a manually operable cocking lever for returning the bolt to the cocked position. The cocking lever is pivotally mounted on the tool such that pivotal movement of the cocking lever is converted into a linear force to move the bolt against the biasing of the spring to the cocked position.

摘要： An apparatus for generating an impact against a target object comprises a driver reciprocally disposed in a housing. The driver includes a hollow tube having a closed end and a nozzle sealing the other end. A piston is slidably positioned in the tube. Propellant is disposed between the piston and the closed end of the tube and fluid is disposed between the nozzle and the piston. A rupture disc is provided for sealing the nozzle which is adapted to rupture when the pressure in the tube exceeds a predetermined pressure. A striker is also mounted in the housing so that in a retracted position of the striker a head portion is proximate the driver and a portion of a shaft extends outwardly from the housing. The striker member is movable between the retracted position and an extended position. The propellant is ignited so that combustion gases build pressure in the tube between the piston and the closed end of the tube causing the pressure in the tube to exceed the predetermined pressure for rupturing the disc. This causes the piston to move toward the nozzle and fluid to be expelled through the nozzle for moving the driver against the head portion of the striker. The driver transfers energy to the striker for moving the striker to the extended position at high velocity for driving the end of the striker with great force against the target object. Recoil action is cushioned by the fluid exiting the nozzle.

摘要： Described is a pneumatic animal stunner that includes a physical catch for the piston that drives the stunning element. This allows pressure to build up behind the stunning element immediately prior to firing rather than requiring the introduction of pressurized air or fluid at the time of actuation, as is common in the prior art. The result is a faster, more effective stroke. The animal stunner also includes a dual trigger mechanism for safety. The animal stunner has a conventional trigger that is activated to pressurize the stunner and an activation means located in its front end. The activation means releases a physical catch that retains the piston in place. Preferably, the activation means is operated when depressed against the animal. The animal stunner is designed so that the stunning element may not be fired more than once for each time the trigger is pulled. In addition, the animal stunner includes exhaust vents that are directed toward the front of the device. By exhausting pressurized fluid toward the front of the device, excessive build up of animal tissues and other debris in the mechanism is prevented, reducing the need for maintenance.

摘要： An apparatus for stunning animals and which has multiple propulsive charges. The apparatus is of the type in which a spike or plunger is projected toward the head of an animal to be slaughtered. The barrel of the apparatus is mounted on a part pivoted to the breech for pivotal movement about an axis parallel to the axis of the barrel. This arrangement mounts the barrel for pivotal movement between a position in which the barrel can be locked to the breech for firing, and a position in which the cartridge chamber of the barrel is aligned with cartridges in the cylinder of a magazine located in a handle connected to the breech. This arrangement permits simply pivoting the barrel into alignment with the magazine to load a cartridge into the chamber, and then pivoting the barrel back to the firing position in which it can be locked to the breech.
