    • A tool-holding system for centering a cutting tool to be utilized by a machine is disclosed herein. The tool-holding system includes a housing defining a tapered recess to be provided to the machine for receiving at least a portion of the tool, a first alignment portion provided to the housing, and an adaptor including a tapered shank that is to be received within the tapered recess defined by the housing. The adaptor includes an aperture formed in the adaptor for receiving a proximate end of the tool and a tool fastener for securing the proximate end of the tool within the aperture at a predetermined angular orientation therein. A second alignment portion is provided to the adaptor to cooperate with the first alignment portion to establish a predetermined angular orientation of the adaptor relative to the housing while the shank of the adaptor is at least partially inserted into the tapered recess. A fastener is also provided for securing the adaptor within the tapered recess of the housing.

    • A one-piece constructed adapter collet tool, for adapting a smaller standard collet to a standard oversized spindle on a machine tool. Said one-piece constructed adapter collet having an external configuration constructed to mate said oversized standard spindle configuration, and an internal configuration constructed to mate with said smaller standard collet configuration. Said adapter collet is constructed with external threads for the purpose of engaging the draw spindle or draw spindle adapter internal threads. Activation of said adapter collet compression function is accomplished by the draw of the adapter collet via the draw spindle or draw spindle adapter, said draw action will compress the adapter collet mating tapered surface via said standard spindle tapered surface. Said compression function also compresses the internal tapered surface of said adapter collet thus compressing said standard collet mating tapered surface thus compressing, holding any parts with said standard collet.

    • A tool receiver or chuck is provided which may receive a cutting tool, such as a router bit or the like, therewithin and non-rotatably retain the tool relative to a rotary driving device. The tool receiver includes a plurality of blades substantially encased within a conical surface. A biasing member biases the blades toward a narrow end of the conical surface such that the blades are biased in a tool engaging or operative position. The biasing member and conical surface thus bias the blades radially inward toward the cutting tool such that the blades engage the conical surface and the cutting tool. The tool receiver preferably includes a retaining member, which retains the blades within the conical surface and biases the blades radially outwardly toward the conical surface. The tool may be released by overcoming the biasing force of the biasing member by moving or sliding a retaining ring or by activating a lever or the like, such that no accessory wrenches or tools are required to insert or release a cutting tool or bit. Preferably, a width and radial length of the blades are dimensioned and/or the contact surfaces are defined to provide non-rotating engagement of the cutting tool by the blades, since the conical surface substantially limits twisting of the blades as the blades begin to rotate relative to the tool, thereby locking the tool relative to the blades. A ratio of the effective contact width of the blades to the radial length of the blades is preferably less than or equal to the coefficient of friction between each of the blades and the tool.
