    • A gate valve is disclosed that may be installed in a pressurized pipe or conduit. The gate valve includes a cylindrical gate housing that has a slot through which a rectangular gate slides between an open and closed position. The gate and gate housing provide seals between the gate valve and the housing section that houses the gate housing when the gate valve is in either an open or a closed position. The bottom seal that engages the pressurized pipe may be equipped with stiffening shields for a higher pressure rating. The operating torque to raise and lower the seal assembly has been substantially reduced by the design of the sliding gate within the gate housing.

    • A valve comprises a housing, an annular housing seat, and a gate. The housing comprises a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. The housing seat is fixed in position relative to the housing via epoxy. The gate comprises a gate seat and a fluid passageway that extends through the gate. The gate is movable relative to the housing between an open position and a closed position. The gate is also configured to allow fluid to flow from the fluid inlet through the fluid passageway to the fluid outlet when the gate is in the open position, and configured such that the gate seat engages the housing seat in a manner preventing fluid from flowing from the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet when the gate is in the closed position.

    • A subsea actuator and method is disclosed that includes a removable monolithic cap/hydraulic chamber that seals the actuator housing top with seals placed around the monolithic cap, defines a straight hydraulic line and port for control line hydraulic fluid, and provides for fasteners to secure the top of the subsea actuator. The monolithic cap/hydraulic chamber is so limited in metal and machine time that it can be a throw-away maintenance item. A preferably cup-shaped spring lifter is provided in telescoping relationship to the hydraulic chamber. Several short hydraulic fluid passageways are provided in the bottom cup portion of the spring lifter to permit assist hydraulic control fluid into the hydraulic chamber below the piston. The driving stem provides a removable connection to the hydraulic piston from the top of the actuator housing and a quick disconnect permits disconnection of the driving stem from the valve stem. The high tension spring does not need to be removed to perform maintenance, and all wear items and seals are readily accessible. Change or replacement of the stem packing is made from the top of the bonnet to avoid dissasembling the bonnet to valve body connection. The spring chamber within the actuator housing may be increased in size to accommodate a larger spring as necessary for fail-safe operation without changing the size of the hydraulic chamber. All sliding components ride on wear rings to increase the lifetime of reliable subsea operation. The moving components are mounted in a compact, concentric configuration.

    • A cut-off diaphragm gate valve has two members (1) of the shape of a quadrangle located opposite to each other as in mirror reflection. Passage openings (4) are disposed in the four corners of each of the members (1). Control screws (5) furnished with nuts (6) and washers (7) are inserted in the passage openings (4). The control screws (5) hold the two members (1) together and place the two members (1) in the proper relative position. Threaded attachment openings (8) made in each of the two members (1) serve for connecting the cut-off diaphragm gate valve to the liquid transport installation. Each of the two members is in part immersed in a profiled gasket (9) vulcanized together with each of the members (1). A profiled diaphragm (19) is nested between the profiled gaskets (9). The profiled diaphragm is seated rotatably on a fixed pin (18). A regulating and limiting pin (27) is located at a side edge (26) of the diaphragm (19) for establishing an open position of the cut-off diaphragm gate valve.

    • A method for inserting a valve in a line includes the step of providing a valve assembly having a valve body with two sections adapted to be assembled over an existing pipe and a gate adapted to cut through the pipe as the gate advances from an open position toward a closed position. The method proceeds by installing the valve assembly on the existing pipe with the gate in the open position and then moving the gate toward the closed position to thereby cut through the pipe. A rotatable-pipe-cutter version of a valve assembly constructed according to the invention includes at least one cutting tooth and the valve body is configured so that an operator can rotate the body on the existing pipe while the gate is advanced toward the closed position. A guillotine version, suited for use with pipes made of polyethylene and other sliceable materials, includes a gate with a cutting edge that slices through the pipe as the gate is advanced toward the closed position.
