    • A device comprising a series of inflatable chambers connected in series by valve means operative to produce a continuous propagation of pressure pulses sequentially along the series of chambers by controlled inflation and deflation of the chambers. Embodiments are shown in therapeutic devices for lowering the incidence of thromboembolism and for generally improving veinous and secondary blood flow. Another embodiment is shown as a peristaltic pump. No distributor is required for the requisite timed inflation and deflation of successive chambers, such timed operation being achieved by a plurality of valve means which may be identical, one such valve means connecting each successive pair of connecting chambers to form a series. The supply of fluid pressure to and the exhausting of fluid pressure from successive chambers in the series is controlled by elements of each valve means which are responsive to the differential in pressure between the pair of chambers connected by that valve means. Due to employment of such valve means the chambers may be modular units and the valve means may be modular units whereby chambers and valve means may be plugged together to make a series of any desired length. When embodied as a therapeutic device it may be assembled by unskilled persons and applied to patients in widely different age and body contour groups.

    • A fluidic pulse generator is utilized to provide a pulsating flow of water to a lavage syringe from a pressurized source. The generator is releasably coupled to a water supply, e.g., a lavatory tap and the pulsating outflow of the generator is channeled through tubing to the syringe. An additive solution carried in a well is aspirated into the outflow through a control channel of the generator. Lavative flow is controlled at the syringe with a fingertip valve; ventilation passageways in the generator drain unutilized water at a rate determined by the valve constriction.

    • A fluid oscillator having a housing with a fluid inlet channel connected to a source of fluid under pressure, and first and second fluid outlet channels which communicate with the fluid inlet channel. A diaphragm is positioned so as to control the flow of fluid from the fluid inlet channel to the first fluid outlet channel. The second fluid outlet channel is connected to the fluid inlet channel upstream of the diaphragm, but the arrangement is such that the fluid flows through the first outlet channel when the diaphragm is in its open position. When the diaphragm is in its closed position, the fluid is diverted to the second outlet channel. The first outlet channel terminates in an end which is open to the atmosphere, and is dimensioned to produce an inertial effect in the fluid flowing through it. When the diaphragm moves to its closed position there is a momentary partial vacuum in the first outlet channel, which helps to hold the diaphragm firmly in its closed position. After the inertial effect has substantially dissipated, the force of the fluid against the diaphragm is sufficient to cause the diaphragm to return to its open position, whereupon the fluid resumes its flow through the first outlet channel.
