摘要： Provided is a system and method for a portable lantern. The portable lantern includes a collapsible translucent hydration bladder, the bladder having an empty state that is suitable for compact storage and a liquid containing state. The bladder has a bottom section structured and arranged to expand and provide a base in the liquid containing state to support the bladder in a generally upright position. A light source suitable for temporary attachment to the outside of the hydration bladder is also provided, the light source emitting light through the bladder and dispersed by liquid when disposed within the bladder to provide a portable lantern. An associated method of use for a portable lantern is also provided.

Alternative embodiments include a manual on/off power switch and/or supplemental shade overlays and/or light bulbs that are light emitting diode lamps, and the light and shade switch assembly aperture is sized to receive the top surface of a bottle neck.
