One claim recites a method including: receiving data representing a media signal; using a programmed electronic processor, calculating perceptibility characteristics of the media signal, in which the perceptibility characteristics include contrast; using a programmed electronic processor, calculating a non-linear contrast to gain mapping using the perceptibility characteristics; using a programmed electronic processor, embedding an auxiliary signal in the media signal with reference to the non-linear contrast to gain mapping. In one embodiment a method is provided including obtaining a media signal; determining characteristics of the media signal; based at least in part on the characteristics of the media signal, providing a map of the media signal; transforming at least some portions of the media signal into a transform domain; and hiding plural-bit data in at least some portions of the transformed media signal. The map identifies at least one area in the media signal in which hiding of plural-bit data should be avoided or suppressed. At least one of the act of transforming or the act of hiding utilizes the map of the media signal. Other embodiments are also provided.

摘要： The present invention relates to a digital image watermarking apparatus and method. Luminance component of a digital image are transformed into coefficients of a frequency domain, and watermark is generated by encrypting a user key and generating pseudo random number from encrypted user key. Then, a replacement coefficient generated from a coefficient of a first frequency area and the watermark is replaced with a coefficient of a second frequency area so that the watermark is embedded into the digital image. The embedded watermark is extracted at an authenticating apparatus and the digital image is authenticated by finding the correlation between the extracted watermark and watermark for authentication.

摘要： A detecting data processing apparatus determines whether one or more code words of a predetermined set of code words are present in a suspected version of a material item. The apparatus comprises a registration processor operable to associate samples of the suspected version with samples of a copy of the original material item, a recovery processor and a detection processor. The recovery processor is operable to generate a recovered code word by comparing the registered copy of the original and the suspect material items. The detection processor is operable to detect one or more code words from a correlation between the recovered code word and the code words from the set. The registration processor is operable to form at least one reduced-bandwidth-version of the material item and to associate the suspected version and the copy of the material item in accordance with a comparison between the reduced-bandwidth-versions of the suspected version and the original material item.

摘要： A perceptual model performs an analysis of a media signal, such as an image or audio signal. The model may be used in media signal processing applications such as digital watermarking and data compression to reduce perceptibility of changes made to code the signal. In one implementation, a method of reducing human perceptibility of visible artifacts attributable to embedding a digital watermark in a media signal is provided. The method determines a contrast measurement for local areas of the media signal; adjusts a contrast measurement for a local area if the contrast measurement is above a predetermined level; and embeds the digital watermark in the local areas in a manner determined at least in part by their respective contrast measurement.
