    • A transconductance amplifier generally limits its current output, and specifically decreases its current output as a function of temperature. The circuit is made up of an operational amplifier and two drive transistors that are connected to a first part of the amplifier circuit and a second part of the amplifier circuit respectively. The first part of the circuit is driven by positive input voltages, and the second part of the circuit is driven by negative input voltages. A transistor in each part of the circuit clamps a voltage, thereby limiting the current output. The negative temperature coefficient of the transistor also decreases the output current as the temperature of the circuit rises.

    • The amplifier circuit includes first and second output stages which respectively amplify positive and negative excursions of an input signal. A bias circuit connected to each stage prevents crossover distortion. A plurality of dependent current sources supplying the bias and amplifier stages are controlled by a master current source. Transistors having temperature responsive threshold voltages are thermally connected to each of the output stages and electrically connected between a constant bias supply and the master current source. If the temperature of either output stage increases above a predetermined value, the thermally associated transistor conducts and renders all of the current sources inoperative. Furthermore, diode strings are utilized to provide low base resistances and other transistors are utilized to provide high emitter resistances for selected transistors thereby enabling them to sustain high voltages.

    • While no signals are being supplied to first and second drive circuits, the drive circuits keep supplying idling currents to the bases of first and second transistors which constitute a push-pull amplifier. A first control circuit is provided in the base-emitter path of the first transistor, to control the first transistor in accordance with an input signal. A second control circuit is provided in the base-emitter path of the second transistor, to control the second transistor in accordance with an input signal. The first control circuit comprises a third transistor, a first resistor connected between the collector and base of the third transistor, a third resistor connected between the collector of the third transistor and the base of the first transistor, a constant current source connected to the base of the third transistor. The IC can be configured such that the multiple op amps are connected in parallel to form a single op amp having output drive and input-referred noise characteristics which are superior to those of the constituent op amps. The IC can be fabricated with either first or second metallization patterns, with the first pattern providing multiple op amps with separate inputs and outputs, and the second pattern interconnecting the amplifiers to form a single op amp. The second pattern also preferably interconnects at least one set of corresponding high impedance nodes to prevent a difference voltage which might otherwise arise between the nodes due to component mismatches between the multiple op amps.
