    • A cable rack clamp includes a clamping member, a base member, a retainer, and first and second bolts. The clamping member includes a longitudinally extending, U-shaped female mounting segment having a front wall and oppositely disposed side walls. A clamping segment extends laterally from the side walls at an end portion of the female mounting segment, forming an opening. The base member includes a longitudinally extending rack engagement portion having upper and lower segments. The lower segment extends laterally forward of the front surface of the upper segment to a longitudinally extending male mounting segment. The male mounting segment is dimensioned to be slidably received in the opening of the clamping member. The retainer may be inserted through the opening of the cable rack. The first bolt mounts the retainer to the base member and may be torqued to exert a clamping force between the retainer and the base member, whereby the retainer and the base member engage opposed sides of the rack to clamp the base member thereto. The second bolt mounts the clamping member to the base member and may be torqued to exert a clamping force between the clamping member and the base member. Ground conductors disposed between the either first bolt and the base member or between the clamping segment of the clamping member and the lower segment of the base member are clamped therebetween.

    • A load-breaking and load-returning apparatus and method of breaking and returning a load are provided for quickly breaking and returning a load to portions of a power line. The apparatus preferably includes at least one power line jumper cable including first and second cable ends and a first connector connected to the first cable end of the at least one power line jumper cable for connecting the at least one power line jumper cable to a portion of a power line. A load-breaking and load-returning device is preferably connected to the second cable end of the at least one power line jumper cable for quickly breaking and returning a load to portions of a power line responsive to a user thereof. The load-breaking and load-returning device preferably includes a second connector for connecting the load-breaking and load-returning device to a portion of a power line.

    • A high current grounding assembly especially adapted for electrically interconnecting and grounding substation phase busses conductors is provided which includes rigid metallic connector elements capable of handling extremely high fault current loads without violent whipping or other motions. The clamp and connector assembly, or one of the phase busses, is connected to ground in order to protect linemen or other workers in the vicinity of the assembly from the effects of fault or inductive currents. In preferred forms, novel conductor-gripping clamps and rigid tubular connector elements may be partially or completely preassembled and thereafter installed on phase busses. The clamps include a shiftable gripper for engaging a respective phase conductor, with a pair of transversely disposed clamp sections on the underside of the gripper for receiving and gripping the rigid connector elements; this construction presents the shortest possible current path through the clamps, which is important when very high fault currents or the like must be grounded.

    • A hot line clamp for temporarily or permanently connecting a branch conductor to a main conductor. The clamp includes a rigid generally U-shaped body with a cylindrical boss for receiving the branch conductor. The branch line is secured in place on the ground by the lineman. The clamp also includes a flap member which is rockably mounted about one leg of the U-shaped body between an open position for enabling the clamp to be received on the main conductor and a closed position for maintaining the clamp in place on the main conductor. A torsion spring is disposed around the pivot for the flap member and biases the latter toward the open position. The edges of flanges on flap member cooperate with the main conductor when the clamp is received thereon for rocking the flap member to the closed position. An eye bolt is threadedly received in one of the legs of the body for tightening and loosening the hold of the clamp on the main conductor, the head of the bolt being adapted to receive the hook of an insulated pole. The weight of the pole itself is enough to rock the flap member into its closed position where holes therein engage dogs on the body. A pin having a predetermined shear strength is connected between the bolt per se and its head. Accordingly, when the tightening torque exerted by the lineman on the bolt exceeds a limit corresponding to the shear strength of the pin, the latter is sheared. The clamp with its pin sheared in this manner may be left as is indefinitely. A second pin is provided having a slightly greater shear strength than the first for loosening the bolt should the first pin be accidentally sheared.
