    • In a cathode ray tube comprising beam producing means to direct a plurality of electron beams from spaced apart locations to impinge on an electron receiving screen, the beams are focused on the screen by a main focusing lens which is common to all of the beams and has an optical center, and an auxiliary lens disposed between the beam producing means and the main focusing lens and having all of the beams passing therethrough with at least two of the beams being at different distances from the optical axis of the auxiliary lens, such auxiliary lens is operative to cause the beams to intersect at the optical center of the main focusing lens and has pre-focusing effects on the beams which are different at least with respect to the said two beams, and an additional focusing lens means is disposed between the main focusing lens and the screen and acts on less than all of the beams to correct for the different pre-focusing effects and thereby cause all of the beams to be focused precisely at the screen.

    • In a cathode-ray tube in which a plurality of electron beams are focused on a screen by a focusing lens from which at least certain of the beams emerge along paths divergent with respect to the tube axis, and each of the beams emerging along a divergent path is deflected to cause convergence of the beams at a common area of the screen; such deflection of each diverging beam is effected by a pair of plates at different electrical potentials disposed at opposite sides of the respective divergent path and an auxiliary electrode having open areas therein disposed along the outer side of the respective divergent path spaced inwardly from the plate which is at the side of the respective divergent path away from which the beam is deflected, this plate being at a relatively low potential and the auxiliary electrode and the other plate being at substantially the same relatively high potential to establish an electric field between the plates which, in the region thereof located between the other plate and the auxiliary electrode and being traversed by the respective beam, has a potential gradient that is maintained substantially constant irrespective of variations in the relatively high potential to avoid misconvergence due to such variations.

    • This disclosure depicts a color television picture tube having an evacuated envelope, an electron gun, a color selection electrode defining a pattern of electron beam passing apertures and a multi-color image screen. The image screen has a corresponding pattern of triads of red-light-emissive, blue-light-emissive and green-light-emissive phosphor elements. The elements are spaced each from one another by a light absorbing material. The tube is characterized by having within at least selected triads in said pattern of triads a first phosphor element and associated electron beam landing area with either a positive or negative tolerance condition. The remaining two phosphor elements and associated beam landing areas have an opposite tolerance condition to that obtained for the first phosphor element.

    • An electroluminescent screen comprising a plurality of continuous phosphor stripes running the length of the screen formed on a panel for a color cathode-ray tube by applying film containing photosensitive material onto the panel. A shadow mask is attached to the panel, and the mask and film are irradiated by light from a light source. The shadow mask has on its concave face which faces the light source apertures arranged in substantially parallel rows, the apertures along the length of each of the rows being separated from each other by thin beam-intercepting bridge portions. The area on the shadow mask irradiated by the light is limited to cover only a part of the length of the rows of apertures by a shield plate having an opening for limiting the path of the light. The shield plate is moved so as to move the irradiated area on the shadow mask along the length of the rows of the apertures. The light source has sufficient length in the lengthwise direction of the rows of apertures to produce on the film the bright image of the apertures, each image being expanded to be connected with the adjacent bright images of the apertures on either side along the length of the row. The light source is gradually inclined synchronously with the moving of the irradiated area on the shadow mask, to always be kept substantially parallel to the rows of apertures in the irradiated area.
