    • A method of manufacturing a solid electrolytic capacitor includes steps (a) to (d). The step (a) forms at least two punched apertures in a metal plate, thereby forming a rung section between adjacent two of the punched apertures, the rung section having surfaces as a pair appearing as a result of formation of the punched apertures. The step (b) cuts the rung section out of the metal plate to form a pad member, the length of the rung section corresponding to a distance between the surfaces being determined to be the height of the pad member. The step (c) mounts the pad member on an anode terminal such that one of the surfaces faces the anode terminal. The step (d) electrically connects an anode section of a capacitor element to the other of the surfaces and electrically connects a cathode section of the capacitor element to the cathode terminal.

    • Disclosed is a method of making a capacitor winding by exposing a plasma polymerizable vapor of an organometallic compound to a plasma, moving a polymeric substrate beneath the plasma-exposed polymerizable organometallic vapor at a speed such that the metallic element in the organometallic vapors is deposited on the polymeric substrate to form a conducting layer, and carbon from the organic portion of the organometallic vapor is deposited on top of the conducting layer as a pinhole free highly cross-linked polymeric film. The substrate is then wound on a spool to form the capacitor winding.Also disclosed is apparatus useful for making the capacitor winding which consists of a substantially gas-tight reactor, a pay-out spool containing a wound-up organic polymeric substrate, a take-up spool positioned so that the substrate can move from the pay-out spool to the take-up spool unimpeded, and means for moving the substrate from the pay-out spool to the take-up spool. A monomer inlet is provided for admitting a vaporous monomer into the reactor over the substrate as it moves from the pay-out spool to the take-up spool and an effluent outlet is provided for drawing gases out of the reactor. A valve controls the admission of the monomer to the inside of the reactor and a vacuum pump applies a vacuum to the effluent outlet. A pressure gauge measures the vapor pressure inside the reactor and a radio frequency generator generates a plasma over the substrate as it moves from the pay-out spool to the take-up spool.

    • The present invention is a combination of a laser system and a controller for use in vaporizing the material of a metallized dielectric film capacitor to form a hole in order to trim its capacitance. The combination includes a laser system which has a laser modulator, a mechanical triggering device and a controller which includes a trigger/reset circuit which is electrically coupled to the mechanical triggering circuit and which provides a trigger signal in its triggered state and a reset signal in its untriggered state. The controller also includes a clock circuit which is electrically coupled to the trigger reset circuit and which provides clock signals in response to the trigger signal and a one-shot monostable, multivibrator circuit having an RC timing circuit which is electrically coupled to the clock circuit and to the laser modulator and which controls the pulse width of its output signal in response to the clock signals. The controller further includes a counter which is electrically coupled to the one-shot monostable, multivibrator circuit and which counts each of the clock signals and a comparator which is electrically coupled to the counter in order to compare the number of the counted clock signals to a selected number and which is electrically coupled to the clock circuit. When the number of the counted clock signal equals the selected number, the comparator provides a clock inhibit signal in order to inhibit the clock circuit from providing any more clock signals.
