    • Apparatuses, systems, and methods are presented which provide for a musical instrument direct box combined with a musical instrument tuner which may be phantom powered by an external audio system, according to some embodiments. In some embodiments, an apparatus is presented. The apparatus may include a direct box (DI) module, and a musical instrument tuner module coupled to the DI module. The musical instrument tuner module may be phantom powered based on a connection to a remote system geographically distinct from the apparatus. In some example embodiments, the apparatus may also include a tuning transformer coupled to the musical instrument tuner module and the DI module, the tuning transformer configured to galvanically isolate a ground domain of a musical instrument signal from a ground domain of the remote system while the musical instrument tuner module measures a pitch of the musical instrument signal.

    • A musical instrument pickup with electrostatic interference (ESI) shield that reduces audible ESI noise in an audio output signal sent to an audio amplifier. The pickup includes an electrostatically sensitive surface, a carbon coating shielding the surface, and a ground conductor electrically connected to the carbon coating to carry a reference potential of the amplifier to the carbon coating. The carbon coating can include a conductive metal component. The coated surface can be a pickup cover, base, bobbin, or other component. The audio amplifier can include an input terminal and a ground terminal having the reference potential, and the pickup can include an electrical connection carrying the pickup audio output signal to the amplifier input terminal, and another electrical connection carrying the reference potential from the amplifier ground terminal to the pickup ground conductor.

    • Embodiments of an electronic instrument simulating a percussion instrument using capacitive touch sensitive sensors are described herein. Embodiments described comprise an art layer, a sensor layer, a shielding layer, an electronics package and a speaker. The art layer has depictions of one or more percussion instruments. The sensor layer is deposed under the art layer. The sensor layer has one or more instrument sensors, each comprising one or more capacitive touch sensors. Instrument sensors are positioned underneath one of the depicted percussion instruments in the art layer so that a finger tapping the depicted instrument will trigger the sensor. The capacitive touch sensors are electrically connected to the electronics package configured to detect changes in capacitance when a particular capacitive touch sensor is touched, causing the electronics package to play on the speaker a sound sample of an percussion instrument associated with that capacitive touch sensor.

    • In a stringed instrument, such as a guitar including a saddle for holding the strings and a pickup assembly for converting vibrations of the strings into electrical signals, the saddle has a curved bottom surface for contacting the pickup assembly. The pickup assembly is formed in flexible layers, including a first layer of insulation, a second layer of piezoelectric film with a ground lead on top, a third layer having contacts formed thereon in positions corresponding to the strings to create active areas in the film underneath the strings, the third layer having lead lines disposed at the bottom thereof, and additional lead lines at the bottom of a fourth flexible layer. Electrodes communicate one end of the lead lines with the contacts via through-holes in the intervening layers. The other ends of the lead lines fasten to pins which connect to an amplifier circuit. The amplifier circuit can be combined with a wireless FM transmitter. The pickup is easy to manufacture in a wide variety of widths simply by changing the position of die cutting blades used in the manufacturing process.
