    • A hopper coin feeder (1) comprises upper and lower hopper discs (18, 25). A flexible hopper wall (17) of diabolo shape cooperates with the upper disc (18) to control the feeding of coins by a coin pushing member (35) to the outer margin of the disc (18) where they are gripped between an annular band (33) and the disc (18) to be conveyed past a coin discriminator (61). Any coins or debris that drop from the edge of upper disc (18) are caught on the lower disc (25) and pass to a reject chute (132) and coin payout cup (12). An active coin delivery chute and diverter (80), FIG. 10, comprises a reciprocable plate (81) having a finger (82) which controls whether a coin fed from the upper disc (18) passes down the chute or is rejected onto the lower disc (25). Coins that pass down the chute enter a bowl (89) of a double-disc coin conveying assembly (5) that conveys a coin from the bowl (89) to a LIFO coin stacks (3) of a coin storage unit (1). Oversize coins that enter the chute can be directed through the bowl (89), and through aligned apertures (8) in the coin conveying discs, to pass into a coin outlet (10) also leading to the payout cup (12).

    • A coin handling system comprises a coin-driving member having a resilient surface and a stationary coin-guiding member having a coin-guiding surface opposing the resilient surface of the coin-driving member. The coin-guiding surface is positioned generally parallel to the resilient surface and spaced slightly therefrom. The resilient surface of the coin-driving member moves coins along the coin-guiding surface of the coin-guiding member. The coin handling system uses a lubrication distribution system to reduce friction between the coins and the coin-guiding surface of the coin-guiding member. The lubrication distribution system includes at least one cavity formed in the coin-guiding surface of the coin-guiding member. A reservoir stores a lubrication fluid, and a supply tubing is used to convey the lubrication fluid from the reservoir to the cavity. A control system regulates the flow of the lubrication fluid from the reservoir to the cavity via the supply tubing.

    • A coin handling machine includes a rotatable disk for receiving deposited coins and feeding out the received coins to a coin sorting passage by the centrifugal force produced by rotation thereof, the coin sorting passage having a pair of guide members for passing only coins of a denomination to be handled therethrough, a denomination selector for selecting the denomination of coins to be handled and passage width adjusting cams for adjusting the spacing between the pair of guide members of the coin sorting passage in accordance with the denomination selected by the denomination selector, the passage width adjusting cams including first and second cams having different cam profiles, a motor for rotating the first cam and the second cam and a controller for controlling the motor, the controller being adapted for selectively transmitting a driving force of the motor to the first cam or the second cam, thereby adjusting the spacing of the pair of guide members of the coin sorting passage so as to coincide with coins of the denomination selected by the denomination selector. The thus constituted coin handling machine can accurately adjust the width of the coin sorting passage so as to coincide with various coins having diameters widely differing from each other with a mechanism of simple structure.

    • A coin queuing device for receiving coins of the same or mixed denominations and delivering the coins to a fixed feed station in single file, in a single layer, and with one edge of each coin positioned at a common reference location. The device comprises a rotatable disc with a resilient upper surface, a drive means for rotating the rotatable disc, coin feed means for feeding coins to the resilient upper surface of the rotatable disc, a coin containment wall extending around the outer periphery of the disc to prevent coins from flying off the disc when the disc is rotated, and a stationary head positioned over a portion of the rotatable disc for engaging the upper surfaces of coins carried beneath the stationary head by the rotatable disc. The stationary head includes a channel for receiving coins which are carried on the surface of the rotatable disc beneath the stationary head. At least a portion of the radially inner wall of the channel spirals outwardly relative to the center of rotation of the rotatable disc to engage the radially inner edges of all the coins that enter the channel. The inner wall extends to the outer periphery of the rotatable disc for discharging from the disc the coins which are advanced along the inner wall. This coin containment wall is interrupted in the region adjacent the inner wall to permit the discharge of coins from the rotatable disc. The upper surface of at least the exit end of the channel is positioned sufficiently close to the resilient upper surface of the rotatable disc to press coins of all denominations down into the resilient surface as the coins are being discharged from the disc.
