    • Disclosed herein is a data structure which includes a sequence of events, each event associated with a sequence number indicating a temporal position of an event within the sequence of events; one or more read-offsets, each read-offset associated with a consumer, wherein each read-offset indicates a sequence number up to which a consumer has read events within the sequence of events; and at least one snapshot which represents events with sequence numbers smaller than the smallest read-offset in a compacted form. Disclosed herein is also a computer-implemented method of maintaining the data structure. Disclosed herein is a computer-implemented method, wherein the method is performed on a sequence of events accessible by a plurality of consumers, each event associated with a sequence number indicating a temporal position of an event within the sequence of events, each consumer associated with a read-offset indicating the sequence number up to which the consumer has read events within the sequence of events, the method includes determining a smallest read-offset of all read-offsets; compacting events with sequence numbers smaller than the smallest read-offset into a snapshot; and replacing the events with sequence numbers smaller than the smallest read-offset with the snapshot. Disclosed herein are corresponding computer-readable media and computing systems.

    • Files stored, or to be stored, in a storage device are marked either as non-discardable or as discardable in a file system structure associated with a storage device. Each discardable file has associated with it a discarding priority level. A publisher file is permitted to be stored in the storage device only if storing the publisher file does not narrow a storage usage safety margin that is reserved for user files. User files are allowed to be stored in the storage device even if storing them narrows the storage usage safety margin but, in such cases, the storage usage safety margin is restored by removing one or more discardable files from the storage device. A discardable file is removed from the storage device if its discarding priority level equals or is higher than a predetermined discarding threshold value.

    • A method and apparatus for efficient data storage and management in order to reduce battery consumption in a mobile device are disclosed. Two data stores, an unorganized store and an organized store, are provided in the mobile device. The unorganized store stores a data in as-it-arrives basis. The organized store stores data in a way that is more efficient for data search and retrieval. A controller controls the unorganized store and the organized store such that new data is stored in the unorganized store while the mobile device is battery powered and moved to the organized store while the mobile device is powered by an external power source. The data is retrieved from the organized store once the data is moved to the organized store.
