    • A time resetting operation in an electronic timepiece requires blocking of the stepping motor 1, and block of the mechanical type is avoided by the invention. A STOP switch 10 actuated by a time resetting stem of the timepiece sets to state "1" a flip-flop 11 which blocks gates 12 and 13 for controlling the passage of the pulses which drive the motor 1 through a feed circuit 2. The circuit 2 then passes a continuous current in the same direction as the last drive pulse. Thus, triggering of the continuous current leaves the position of the rotor unchanged. A counter 14 counts 1-second pulses and then resets the flip-flop 11, which causes the motor to resume normal operation. This avoids excessive discharging of the battery of the electronic timepiece if the user forgets to return the stem to its initial position after a time resetting operation.

    • An electronic timepiece having a stepping motor and a drive circuit responsive to a control signal for applying electrical drive pulses having polarities determined by the control signal for rotating the rotor of the stepping motor. The control circuit normally operates in a mode for applying a control signal to the drive circuit effective to control the drive circuit to apply alternate polarity electrical drive pulses to rotate the stepping motor rotor in a normal direction. Resetting circuitry is operable for correcting the time kept by the timepiece. A detecting circuit detects whether the stepping motor rotor is in a position to be rotated by a forthcoming drive pulse after resetting. If the stepping motor rotor is not in a position for rotation a detection circuit signal is applied to the control circuit so that the control signal controls the drive circuit to apply an electrical pulse effective to rotate the stepping motor rotor after resetting. Consequently, after resetting the immediately forthcoming drive pulse will have a polarity effective to rotate the stepping motor rotor and no time will be lost.

    • A safety feature for a function control circuit particularly adapted for use with timing circuitry adapted to produce a time based signal is provided. A function signal circuit is adapted to produce either a first or a second function selecting signal. A multi-position switch is coupled to the function signal circuit and is adapted to remain in a quiescent position. The multi-position switch is further adapted to be manually displaced in a first direction to effect producing of a first function selecting signal by said function signal circuit and is further adapted to be manually displaced in a direction opposite to said first direction to effect producing by said function signal circuit of a second function selecting signal. An inhibit circuit is coupled to the timing circuit for receiving the time based signal and is also coupled to the function control circuit and multi-position switch and in response to displacement of the multi-position switch in the first direction inhibits producing of the second function selecting signal in response to displacement of said multi-position switch in the opposite direction within a predetermined interval of time after the multi-position switch means is returned from displacement in the first direction.
