    • A sheet folding apparatus includes a fan folding unit that fan folds a folded-back sheet into a width or length of the regular size to file the sheet in the regular-size folder such that the sheet forms layers along a traveling direction of the sheet; first and second punching units that punch the filing hole in the sheet fan folded, respectively, into the width and the length of the regular size at the portion to be punched to file the sheet in the regular-size folder; and a sheet-processing setting unit that sets a fold mode of the fan fold and selects one of the first punching unit and the second punching unit for use in punching of the filing hole in the sheet based on a size and orientation of the delivered sheet.

    • An apparatus and a method for forming an image is provided that uses a contact type transfer member and a retract mechanism so as to transfer a toner image onto a continuous medium, performs the transfer process stably onto various continuous media and reduces unnecessary transfer of toner from the contact type transfer member to the continuous medium.The unnecessary transfer of toner may be caused by a concentration of contact stress when the contact type transfer member (16), which is moved by a retract mechanism, contacts with the continuous medium (25). To dissipate the contact stress, the transfer member (16) contacts with the continuous medium (25) while the continuous medium (25) is steadily conveyed and the transfer member is steadily rotated. Accordingly, the transfer of the toner from the transfer member (16) to the continuous medium (25) may be reduced. Furthermore, the friction at the contact line may be reduced and thus staining of the continuous medium may be further reduced.

    • A printer prints on two sides of a sheet of paper having continuous pages, and discharges the paper to a postprocessor for disconnecting the paper in page units and storing the disconnected sheets of paper in a stack. Depending on whether the postprocessor has an inversion mechanism that inverts front and back sides of the paper, sides of the paper on which data for the front side of the paper and data for the back side of the paper are printed are switched. With this arrangement, even when the postprocessor does not have the inversion mechanism, the front side data is printed on the back side, and the back side data is printed on the front side thereby enabling the postprocessor to stack the disconnected sheets of paper in page units in the order of page numbers.

    • An apparatus for printing continuous paper wherein, when a paper uppermost portion sensor produces an unstable output due to the position of the paper in controlling the operation for raising or lowering a table for stacking the continuous paper, the output value is invalidated and the operation for raising or lowering the table is continued. The sensor detects the uppermost position of the paper on the paper table on which the continuous paper carried through a printer unit is folded by a guide member and is stacked, and a control unit controls a moving mechanism relying upon the sensor output to change the distance between the paper table and the guide member. When the sensor is producing an unstable output due to the position of the paper being stacked, the control unit works to continue the operation of the moving mechanism even when the sensor has detected the paper.

    • A paper transfer apparatus is provided which is incorporated in an electrophotographic printer having a photosensitive drum for printing on elongated paper. The paper transfer apparatus serves to transfer the elongated paper along a transfer path extending via the photosensitive drum. The paper transfer apparatus includes a discharge or scuff roller for pulling the elongated paper in a transferring direction. The discharge roller is spaced downstream from the photosensitive drum. The paper transfer apparatus also includes a pair of tractors for advancing the elongated paper along the transfer path. The tractors are spaced upstream from the photosensitive drum. Each of the tractors is provided with a presser member supported by a tractor lid of the tractor. The presser member serves to apply friction to the elongated paper when the tractor lid is in closed position.
