    • A transport mechanism for the advance of a motion-picture film in a camera is controlled by a photometric circuit to stop the advance of the film for a predetermined number of shutter revolutions, in the event of insufficient lighting, whereby each frame is exposed a number of times depending upon luminous intensity. The photometric circuit includes a photosensor periodically illuminated by a reflective shutter surface; the resulting voltage pulses may be fed to a pulse counter, which reactivates the transport mechanism after a manually or automatically selected number of cycles, or may charge a capacitor to trigger a threshold sensor after a sufficiently long cumulative exposure. A servomotor for the control of an iris diaphragm ahead of the shutter is controlled by the photometric circuit to reduce the incident light, under conditions of nearly sufficient illumination, to prevent overexposure of a frame due to successive exposures at full aperture.

    • The light-sensitive negative-feedback diaphragm control system of the motion-picture camera includes a stepper-motor coupled to the diaphragm, and a control circuit generating stepper-motor drive pulses. The control circuit includes an oscillator having a time-constant circuit which establishes the repetition frequency of the drive pulses. m different repetition frequencies can be established for the drive pulses, using m semiconductor switches each connected to the time-constant circuit. A program-step counter counts program-step-change signals generated during film transport, and a "1" signal appears on successive ones of the counter outputs. The outputs include, in succession, a fade-out output group, a rewind output group, and a fade-in output group. Each such output group contains m outputs. Logic circuitry connected to the outputs of the program-step counter imbalances the diaphragm control system and controls the film transport motor, to effect fade-out, then rewind, then fade-in in dependence upon the program-step count. The first through mth semiconductor switches are each connected to the first through mth outputs of the fade-out output group, respectively, and to the mth through first outputs of the fade-in output group, respectively. Accordingly, during fade-out, the repetition frequency of the drive pulses is progressively increased, and during fade-in decreased.

    • A motion picture camera wherein the trigger of the camera release is movable from an extended position to a second position in which it starts the camera motor, and beyond the second position to thereby cause an auxiliary tooth to enter a gap in the annulus of teeth at the periphery of a program wheel which forms part of the mechanism for making exposures with dissolve. The auxiliary tooth is thereby moved into the path of cyclical movement of the pallet on a pawl which is driven whenever the motor is on whereby the pallet can move the program wheel from a starting position and thereupon cooperates with the teeth of the program wheel to rotate the latter through one revolution during which the program wheel initiates the making of exposures with fade-out and subsequent rearward transport of film frames which were exposed with fade-out, and prepares the motor for renewed forward transport of such film frames with simultaneous exposure with fade-in. The renewed forward transport is effected by depressing the trigger. The motor remains in operation while the user moves the trigger beyond the second position so that the making of exposures with fade-out can follow, without any interruption, the making of normal exposures.

    • A control device to effect overlap photography in a motor driven motion picture camera sequentially operable to effect a fade-out photography, a film rewinding, and a fade-in photography. By manually changing-over the camera to a fade-out photography, the fully opened shutter means is closed by the control device for taking a fade-out picture and is locked at the fully closed aperture. After locking of the shutter means is terminated, rewinding of the film in which the fade-out picture is taken is automatically actuated by the control device for preventing exposure of the rewinding film during film rewinding, and the power source is opened upon termination of film rewinding. Locking of the shutter means is released by the control device through a changing-over of the camera to a normal photographing for taking a fade-out photography through a release operation of the camera.
