摘要： Radiotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for cancer and its success depends critically on accurate targeting and delivery of the correct radiation dose. Accurate dosimetry is therefore essential to maintain and improve patient survival rates. However, size and long wait times currently limit water and graphite based calorimeters to standards laboratories leaving field-based dosimetry to ionization chamber measurements which depend upon a reference field-specified calibration factor. It would therefore be beneficial to provide radiotherapy equipment operators a direct approach of clinical reference dosimetry wherein the dosimeter provides increased independence on dose, dose rate, radiation energy, and energy type, etc. It would be further beneficial for such novel clinical dosimeters to be compact, function as secondary standards used routinely for measurements and allow radiotherapy doses to be measured directly and in an absolute manner. According to embodiments of the invention novel compact graphite probe calorimeters are provided.

摘要： An absorbed dose water calorimeter that takes advantage of the low thermal diffusivity of water and the water-imperviousness of polyethylene film. An ultra-small bead thermistor is sandwiched between two thin polyethylene films stretched between insulative supports in a water bath. The polyethylene films insulate the thermistor and its leads, the leads being run out from between the films in insulated sleeving and then to junctions to form a Wheatstone bridge circuit. Convection barriers may be provided to reduce the effects of convection from the point of measurement. Controlled heating of different levels in the water bath is accomplished by electrical heater circuits provided for controlling temperature drift and providing adiabatic operation of the calorimeter. The absorbed dose is determined from the known specific heat of water and the measured temperature change.

摘要： A dose measurement system for ion implantation equipment based on the thermal energy deposited by the ion beam on a calibrated mass which periodically intercepts the beam. The method is insensitive to the ambient electrons which are present in the ion implanter volume. The method is also independent of processes in which the energetic ion changes its charge along its beam path. Thus, the invention solves problems of conventional does measuring system based on charge collection requiring exclusion of free electrons from the collector and compensation for the component of the implanted beam which is un-ionized and hence unrecorded by the charge collector. The simplicity and compactness of the calorimeter method has further advantages, in particular, the calorimeter solves the problem of making dose measurements in restricted spaces.
