    • A forge furnace chamber has rear, side and top walls each defined by an expanded sheet metal member and U-shaped mats of ceramic fiber insulating material supported thereon. First ones of the U-shaped mats have the closed ends thereof abutting the corresponding expanded sheet metal member with the legs of each mat extending inwardly of the chamber, and second ones of the mats have their closed ends facing inwardly of the chamber with the legs of each mat receiving the adjacent legs of an adjacent pair of the first mats therebetween, whereby the closed ends of the second mats extend across the inner ends of the adjacent legs of the first mats. The interleaved mats of insulating material are supported on the corresponding expanded sheet metal member by metal rods extending between the legs of the first mats adjacent the closed ends thereof and wire ties fastening the rods to the expanded sheet metal member.

    • A lightweight ladle cover employing ceramic fiber mats in modules. The modules are formed by having the generally rectilinear mat folded into five adjacent sections, the first of which depends vertically toward the "hot" side of the cover but is sandwiched between the second, third and fourth sections which form a vertical, horizontal ("hot" side) and vertical U-shape configuration about the first section. The last section is folded to extend horizontally to overlay part of the next module. The modules are anchored to an expanded metal wall at the "cold" side of the cover by an anchoring system which employs flat bars with spaced apart threaded studs welded to one flat side of the bar. In assembly, the studs are pierced through the mat at the junction of the first and second sections and then passed through openings in the expanded metal wall and secured by a washer and nut arrangement. The modules are then held by two bar-stud assemblies. The modules can be assembled by the process of laying down successive mats, securing them with anchoring assemblies, folding them in place and then repeating the process.

    • A cover for a top charged melting furnace includes an annular ring of downwardly extending blocks or modules of ceramic fiber insulating material. A plurality of T-bar anchors cooperate with the blocks to provide an anchor system for the annular ring. This anchor system allows the ring's attachment to the cover to be tightened in compensation for heat and compressionally related block size reductions. The anchoring system prevents the ring of blocks from sagging during cover elevation while not interfering with upward movement of the blocks during cover positioning on the furnace. The annular ring of blocks protects the main portion of the cover's insulation from damage and any damaged blocks in the ring are readily replaceable.

    • Disclosed are a fibrous insulation block which can improve work efficiency of lining construction in various types of refractory furnace in iron works, and a construction method for a heated furnace-surface lining using the same. The heating surface protection section (6) of the packing material (3) can be moved by the removal of the binding band and disposed on the same plane as the pressing surface abutting section, and has handhold sections (10) provided therein.
