    • A highly flexible sealing arrangement designed to seal high-temperature furnace ports, particularly the electrode port of an electric furnace. The seal comprises an annular support member fixed to a flexible sealing member and employs the use of a garter spring to uniformly apply the desired amount of seal compression. The arrangement and flexibility of the sealing member allows the seal to adapt itself to the wide range of operating and upset conditions that typically exist for a furnace electrode seal. Frictional wear on the seal may be greatly reduced as the design inherently allows for a much lower amount of seal compression to be applied, furthermore, the seal is able to move axially which can significantly reduce wear caused by electrode regulation.

    • A gas leakage seal for a turbine, including first and second cloth layers having woven warp and weft wires, wherein the first and second cloth layers are brazed together by a flux paste whereby the cloth layers have their edges aligned and the brazing substantially seals gaps between the wires along substantially the entire length and width of the brazed together cloth layers. Weld beads having a thickness greater than the combined thickness of the brazed together cloth layers connect the edges of the cloth layers along their length. The turbine includes two members with aligned recesses in which opposite of the weld beads are received. The seal is made by brushing a nickel and/or cobalt based flux paste on one side of one of the cloth layers, brazing that cloth layer to a side of the second cloth layer to substantially seal the gaps between the wires, and creating weld beads with an electron beam to connect the edges of the cloth layers along their length.

    • A seal for an exhaust duct includes a metal mesh member sandwiched between an outer plate and an inner plate. The seal includes a plurality of flexible members defined by a plurality of slots in both the inner and outer plates. The flexible members provide for expansion and contraction along with creating flexibility in the region of contact between the seal land and the seal. The metal mesh member substantially eliminates gaps and leak paths created through the slots. The metal mesh member is composed of a plurality of interwoven wire strands impregnated with a high temperature elastomeric sealant. The impregnation of high temperature elastomeric sealant over the metal mesh member improves sealing while maintaining the desired flexibility of the seal.
