    • Disclosed is a continuously variable transmission including: a pair of pressing units; a pair of first support units that support the pressing units by using one end side as a fulcrum, and generate a force for clamping and pressing both the disks using the pressing unit by virtue of a clamping force applied to the other end side; a pair of second support units that extend along a connecting line in parallel with the shaft center connecting line and are configured to clamp and support both the disks such that the other end side of the pair of first support units can move along the connecting line to generate the clamping force; and a clamping force adjustment unit connected to an end of the pair of second support units opposite to the pivot shaft side to adjust the clamping force of the second support units.

    • In a multistage transmission, a pair of pressure rollers is provided to be movable along a two-axes connecting line of input and output shafts within a disk overlapping area of input and output disks, and configured to sandwich the input and output disks while applying contact pressure from the outside disk faces at a position corresponding to a required transmission ratio. A plurality of ridged portions, formed on each of the input and output disks, are configured such that the entire length of the two-axes connecting line is divided into an input-side driving radius and an output-side driving radius, both determined based on the required transmission ratio, and that an apex of a selected input-side ridged portion and an apex of a selected output-side ridged portion, both determined based on the required transmission ratio, are arranged to oppose each other on the two-axes connecting line.

    • Parallel power input and output shafts of a variable speed drive are spaced a fixed radial distance from each other. Axially flexible torque transmitting laminations are floatingly stacked on the input shaft and are radially interleaved with a stack of floatingly axially flexible torque transmitting laminations on the output shaft. The axial flexibility of the laminations makes them resiliently deformable sidewise and their radially overlapping portions are forced into axial spot contact with each other on an axis which extends parallel to the shafts and which is transversely adjustable from a position adjacent to the input shaft, affording a low gear ratio, to a position adjacent to the output shaft affording a high gear ratio, and vice versa.

    • The friction drive wheel of a variable speed ratio transmission for controlling the speed of a lathe crossfeed assembly includes teeth around its periphery that engage the teeth of driving pinion with which they re held in engagement by linkages pivotably connecting the centers of rotation of the driving pinion and the friction drive wheel so that the friction drive wheel remains engaged with the pinion as it is raised nd moved by a control knob to infinitely variable positions between two rotatable friction discs of a clutch. The friction discs are biased toward each other by a compression spring to grip the friction drive wheel at a location on its faces controlled by its position between them, whereby a lead screw that moves the crossfeed assembly and which is connected by a clutch to the friction discs is driven by the discs at an infinitely adjustable speed.
