    • An attenuator apparatus has an outer housing with a first chamber filled with a first fluid, and a bellows member of elastomeric material mounted in the first chamber and having a second chamber filled with a second fluid, the bellows member having a first end facing away from the first chamber. A piston is slidably mounted in the housing at the first end of the bellows member for acting on the bellows member in response to a force applied to the piston so as to expand the bellows member in the first chamber and cushion the force. The bellows member returns to its original configuration and biases the piston back in a second direction opposite to the first direction on removal of the force.

    • A hydropneumatic suspension system for land vehicles, especially tracked vehicles such as tanks and earth movers, in which a piston connected to a suspended part displaces a hydraulic medium to compress a gas. A second pressurizable gas chamber is provided and is connected to the primary gas-compression chamber by a valve operated with a predetermined lag or delay so that the energy generated by movement of the suspended part toward the chassis or body of the vehicle is stored and supplied to the suspended part at a subsequent time without substantial transformation of the suspension energy into heat or other dissipation of this energy.

    • The present invention provides a damping device and a method for assembling the damping device. The damping device includes an outer tube and an inner tube disposed concentrically along a center axis defining a chamber, with a diaphragm located between the inner tube and outer tube dividing the chamber. A gas charge seal is secured over the chamber between the outer tube and inner tube. An inner clamp is in a sealing engagement with the inner tube and holds the diaphragm in place. A waist defines a sealing surface adjacent to outer tube. The diaphragm extends from under the inner clamp and through a “U” shaped turn back towards the waist. An upper clamp axially aligns with the waist and holds the diaphragm into the waist of the outer tube, sealing the diaphragm to the outer tube.

    • A gas chamber (G) and a liquid chamber (R) are separated by a free piston (2) in a cylinder (1) of a hydraulic damper. The free piston (2) comprises a hollow main body (3), a metal bellows (4) which elongates and contracts according to a pressure balance between the gas chamber (G) and liquid chamber (R), and a stopper (8) fixed to the main body (3) for preventing the metal bellows (4) from elongating beyond a predetermined length. By compensating for variation in the capacity of the liquid chamber (R) caused by a displacement of the piston (10) in the cylinder (1) by elongation or contraction of the metal bellows (4), the damping characteristic of the damper is prevented from becoming unstable due to a frictional force acting on the free piston (2). The stopper (8) prevents excessive stress from being exerted on the metal bellows (4).
