    • A reciprocating pump includes an open-bottomed barrel adapted for attaching to the lower end of a production tubing string; a seating assembly having a cylindrical bore and adapted for mounting to a seating nipple at the upper end of the barrel; and a plunger assembly adapted for attaching to the lower end of a sucker rod string. The plunger assembly includes concentric upper and lower plunger sections interconnected by a double-valve, ported valve cage. The plungers are sized for sealing reciprocating engagement within, respectively, the bore of the seating assembly and the bore of the pump barrel. The lower plunger and the ported valve cage define a production chamber within the pump barrel. The upper plunger has ports allowing fluid flow from the tubing into the production chamber. Optionally, the upper plunger and the barrel may be provided with flush ports facilitating flushing of the pump to eliminate vapor lock.

    • A sealing structure is provided wherein an annular groove formed in a pump cylinder of a piston pump receives therein a seal ring made of a synthetic resin material and having an inner circumferential surface fluid-tightly contacting an outer circumferential surface of the pump piston and an O-ring arranged on the outer circumferential side of the seal ring and urging the seal ring radially inward. The seal ring is formed at its axial end portions with flange portions for preventing the O-ring from coming off. In the state that the seal ring and the O-ring are fitted in the annular groove, the flange portions do not receive a load from the O-ring, and a surface pressure which the seal ring applies to the outer circumferential surface of the piston at an axial center portion thereof is set to be higher than surface pressures which it applies to the outer circumferential surface of the piston at axial end portions thereof.

    • A pump device and method minimizes the quantity of air in a vehicle brake system by reducing the volume of detrimental space. The device includes a piston movable between first and second end points, a line system that conducts fluid through the device, and a closing element, movable between an open position releasing the flow of the fluid and a closed position interrupting the fluid flow, that selectively releases the flow of the fluid through the device. The line system includes a through-line formed in the piston for conducting the fluid through the piston. By virtue of a section of the through-line that receives the closing element in the piston, a force is generated that is transmittable from the fluid to the closing element that moves the closing element in the direction of its closed position when the piston is moving in the direction of the first end point.
