The compressor includes a motor compressor unit with a rotating oil pickup tube to which an oil paddle is attached. The oil paddle rotates in a base lubricant of polyol ester mixed with a siloxane ester foaming agent. The combination of the foaming additive with the oil paddle creates a foam layer that floats in the oil sump to reduce the sound level of the compressor.

This results in a supersaturated solution of refrigerant in oil in the upper level which drives the refrigerant out of the oil, thereby creating froth which provides sound reduction without disturbing the lower level which remains stratified.

摘要： A motor-compressor unit is resiliently mounted within a shell defining a lubricating oil sump. The compressor includes a primary oil pump having its inlet submerged in the oil sump to pump said oil to lubricate various compressor components. A secondary oil pump has its inlet in fluid flow communication with the oil sump. The secondary oil pump agitates said oil and increases the velocity thereof to cause any gas entrained therein to separate therefrom. The separated gas and agitated oil is directed by a distributor radially outward through the oil and over the outside surfaces of the compressor to absorb acoustical energy generated thereby.

摘要： In accordance with the principles of the invention, a compressor is provided in a hermetically sealed enclosure with the crankshaft of the compressor being permitted to extend downwardly into the area where lubricating oil is contained within the hermetically sealed enclosure. Mounted on the crankshaft, below the rotor of the electric motor driving it but above its thrust and journal bearing is a stirring member. The stirring member comprises a flat, annular disc which is welded to a spider member so that the annular disc is disposed in an angle relative to the axial length of the crankshaft. Because of the angular offset of the annular disc and its disposition in the oil in the lower part of the hermetically sealed enclosure, rotation of the crankshaft occasions stirring of the oil thereby producing bubbles in the oil body. This lessens the sound transmission quantities of the oil so that a portion of the noise due to the rotation of the electric motor and the operation of the compressor is attenuated and not transmitted outwardly of the hermetically sealed enclosure.

Aeration of the lubricating oil by the rotating stirrer attenuates the transmission of mechanical noise generated within the hermetically sealed shell.
