    • A fuel injection pump is proposed for internal combustion engines having a pump piston having a blind bore and two control bores and in which the fuel quantity to be supplied is controlled by means of a control slide having oblique control edges. At least two control edges are provided in a window-like recess of the control slide, of which the lower edge in each case and possibly the upper one as well extend obliquely; the upper control edge provided in the recess determines the supply onset, in cooperation with the first control bore, and the lower control edge of the recess determines the end of supply, in cooperation with the second control bore.

    • A pump-injector assembly comprises a plunger slidable in a bore. The plunger has a first or upper position in which fuel is admitted into the lower part of the injector bore through an inlet port, and a second or lower position in which a tapered lower end of the plunger obturates fuel spray nozzles provided through the bottom of the bore. A recess is provided in the plunger wall and communicates with the bottom of the bore through a longitudinal passageway of the plunger. A ramp inclined to the plunger axis is formed by the upper edge of the recess and co-operates with a fuel outlet port located on the wall of the injector bore to control the beginning of the injection. Rotation of the plunger relative to this outlet port permits adjustment of the amount of injected fuel charge.

    • The unit fuel injector disclosed is directly mountable on cylinder heads in an internal combustion compression ignited engine. The device includes a housing with a spring-biased cam operated reciprocating piston mounted therein. The ported piston has a constant length stroke in the two embodiments disclosed. The quantity of fuel injected on each constant length stroke is determined by a movable ported sleeve member in which the piston reciprocates. Fuel is supplied to the unit fuel injector through appropriate porting in the cylinder head in a conventional manner.

    • A plunger type fuel injection pump for use in a spark ignition internal combustion engine is disclosed. Fuel is pumped by displacement of the plungers with the timing and quantity of fuel delivered to the engine being determined by the sealing of a spill port by an appropriately shaped, axially and rotatably displaceable, land which is contoured to seal the spill passage when fuel delivery to the engine is desired. In order to match fuel flow characteristics with engine air flow characteristics throughout the entire speed and load range of the engine, and in particular over the part load operating range of the engine, plunger displacement is controlled by a contoured face cam in place of the normally provided swash plate. The cam contour is arranged to provide for a rate of plunger displacement which is increasing for a major portion of the 180* angular pump shaft rotation preceding the plunger top dead center position. The cam surface is radial with respect to its axis of rotation and the plungers are provided with means to engage the cam surface along a radial line and with means to prevent the plungers from rotating about their own axes.
