    • The invention relates to a reciprocating engine and a working fluid inlet system therefore. The engine includes at least one cylinder with a reciprocating piston therein and a variable volume expansion chamber capable of receiving a working fluid via an inlet valve. The inlet system includes a pilot valve having an open condition and a closed condition. In the open condition, the secondary fluid passes therethrough to act on the inlet valve. The system also includes an actuating means for controlling the condition of the pilot valve. The inlet valve is adapted to open in response to the action of the secondary fluid. The engine may also include exhaust means, possibly by porting in the piston and a cylinder wall. The working fluid may be used as the secondary fluid.

    • A pilot control valve for controlling a reciprocating pump having a valve member shiftable within a valve body between a first or nulldownstrokenull position and a second or nullupstrokenull position. When the valve member is in its first position, the valve member positions a pair of slide valves to allow communication of control fluid to the lower surface of a piston to move the piston from a first position to a second position. As the piston reaches its second position, a poppet disposed in a rod attached to the piston allows control fluid acting on the valve member to depressurize. As such control fluid is depressurized, pressurized control fluid acts on the valve member to move the valve member from its first position to its second position. In its second position, the valve member positions the pair of slide valves to block communication of the control fluid to the lower surface of the piston and to allow communication of the control fluid to the upper surface of the piston causing the piston to return to its first position. As the piston returns to its first position, the poppet disposed in the piston rod allows the pressurized control fluid acting on the upper surface of the piston to act on the valve member to move the valve member back to its first position. In its first position, the valve member repositions the pair of slide valves to block communication of the control fluid to the upper surface of the piston and allows communication of the control fluid to the lower surface of the piston and the process is repeated.

    • The object of the invention is to provide a device for digital hydraulic pressure transformation with low loss, intended for flow—and power control for hydraulic machines, particularly hydraulic cylinders, which via a switching device are connected to a pressure reservoir with constant high pressure. According to the invention an intermediate mass is present between the switching device and the hydraulic machine which mass is activated by the flowing medium, the intermediate mass being of such size that the average velocity of the flow in the pipe during the open period of the switching device is sufficiently low to bring the hydraulic medium into the hydraulic machine so slowly, that the pressure change at the location of the hydraulic machine is smaller than the pressure difference between the reservoir and the momentary pressure at the location of the hydraulic machine, as result of which a gradual stepwise rising or lowering of said pressure level is made possible.

    • The present invention relates to an improved cylinder pump. The cylinder pump includes air hoists enabling the entire pump assembly to be lifted so that a container may be placed thereunder and thereafter the air hoists may be biased downwardly so that the follower plate of the pump mechanism will bear down on top of the liquid contained within the container. Thereafter, the air cylinder of the pump is activated and reciprocated up and down through the provision of a four port reversing valve activated through the use of air sensors to cause the pump to pump fluid out of the container while the downward bias of the air hoists keeps the follower plate in contact with the surface of the liquid within the container. By separating the air cylinder actuator for the pump mechanism from the four port reversing valve thereof, improved reliability and quietness are attained.

    • A diverse fluid pump assembly including a pair of parallel, reciprocating piston-cylinder, motor-pump combinations. The motor-pump combinations are oppositely arranged so that one is pumping while the other is charging. Motor reversal is accomplished through a unique, hydraulically actuated spool valve which is slaved to the common piston rods of the respective, tandem motor-pump combinations. The invention is intended for use primarily as a mud pump for oil well servicing or drilling rigs. Principal components are easily broken down for replacement because of wear and/or size considerations. In a preferred embodiment, the hydraulically actuated spool valve is hydraulically slaved to the motors to effect motor reversal. A unique floating stuffing box is provided on the motor side of each combination which accomodates lateral rod shifting while maintaining a fluid tight seal. The spool valve operates smoothly through five distinct stages during motor reversal thus eliminating any need for a pulsation dampener.
