    • A method to develop a software based sequencer for a turbine including: selecting a general purpose sequencer software module having standardized software for sequencing turbines through defined states of operation; selecting options from predefined settings presented by the sequencer software module, wherein the selected options define operational events of the turbine which trigger the sequencer to transition the turbine from one of the defined states to the next defined state, and using the general purpose sequencer software configured with the selected options for the settings.

    • In one embodiment, a steam valve apparatus includes: a hydraulic cylinder including an internal space sectioned into first and second chambers by a piston operated by a hydraulic liquid; a first passage to supply the hydraulic liquid to the first chamber; a second passage connecting the first and second chambers; a third passage to drain the hydraulic liquid from the second chamber; an electromagnetic valve switched between first and second states; a first cartridge valve opening the first passage when the electromagnetic valve is in the first state and closing the first passage when the electromagnetic valve is in the second state; and a second cartridge valve closing the first passage when the electromagnetic valve is in the first state and opening the first passage when the electromagnetic valve is in the second state.

    • A boiler feedpump turbine (BFPT) control system for controlling the rotating speed of a boiler feedpump turbine in a selected one of at least three control modes is disclosed. The boiler feedpump turbine is mechanically coupled to a boiler feedpump for governing the flow of feedwater pumped by the feedpump to a boiler. A boiler control turbine speed signal which represents the feedwater requirement of the boiler is provided to the BPFT control system from a conventional boiler feedwater control system. The flow of feedwater pumped by the feedpump is a function of the rotating speed of the boiler feedpump turbine which is controlled in a selected one of three modes in accordance with the adjustment of a speed set point. The three control modes include adjusting the speed set point in relation to a turbine speed demand signal generated within the BFPT control system only at values below the boiler control turbine speed signal, adjusting the speed set point in relation to the boiler control turbine speed signal, and overriding the adjustment of the speed set point by the boiler control turbine speed signal to permit adjustment of the speed set point by the turbine speed demand signal beyond the value of the boiler control turbine speed signal. Transfers between the control modes are performed automatically in response to a set of predetermined conditions and commands. The BFPT additionally provides for conducting an overspeed test which permits adjustment of the speed set point by the turbine speed demand signal in a predetermined range beyond a rated turbine speed value. This overspeed test function prohibits the speed set point from remaining above the rated turbine speed values at times when not conducting the overspeed test. The BFPT control system employs a closed-loop primary speed controller which calculates its turbine speed feedback signal from a selected one of two speed transducers. The other of the two speed transducers may be used if a malfunction is detected in the selected speed transducer. The BFPT control system further incorporates a degraded manual backup controller which assumes control responsibilities when a malfunction is detected which renders the primary controller inoperative.

    • An electrohydraulic emergency trip system which automatically shuts off the steam supply to a turbine power plant upon the detection of specific operational contingencies is disclosed. The hydraulic portion of the system includes two pair of combined electrical and hydraulically operated pilot trip valves that are so arranged that the opening of any one valve of each pair decreases the hydraulic trip pressure to close rapidly the steam inlet valves to the turbine; that an open or closed failure of a single trip valve does not prevent a valid trip or cause an unwarranted trip; and finally that an open failure of one pair of the valves does not result in an unwarranted trip. Each pair of valves is electrically operated from an independent voltage source such that the electrical failure of one source does not cause or prevent an unwarranted turbine trip. The pilot portion of the hydraulic system is so arranged that the electrical operation of either pilot valve portion of each pair operates hydraulically the other pilot portion of that pair.The hydraulic portion of the system is also constructed to be responsive to the operation of the conventional mechanical overspeed mechanism. In one embodiment such mechanism operates from the same fluid pressure source to operate the two pair of valves hydraulically. In another embodiment, a second fluid source is used to operate the conventional diaphragm overspeed trip valves of the overspeed mechanism and in turn the diaphragm valve hydraulically operates the two pair of trip valves. In a modification of this embodiment, the diaphragm valves decreases the trip pressure to close the steam inlet valves without the necessity of operating the trip valves.
