An optical communication system includes a rotation-varying outer housing that is at least partially rotationally decoupled from an inner member. The inner member is at least partially disposed within the rotation-varying outer housing. The optical communication system also includes one or more transceiver modules, one or more transmitting bulbs rotationally coupled to one of the outer housing or the inner member, and one or more optical sensors rotationally coupled to one of the outer housing or the inner member. The transmitting bulbs are configured to transmit light over at least a portion of a cavity between the transmitting bulbs and the optical sensors, and the optical sensors are configured to receive light over at least a portion of a cavity between the transmitting bulbs and the optical sensors.

摘要： A well tool apparatus for damping torsional vibration of a drill string comprises stabilizing members projecting radially outwards from a housing that is, in operation, rotationally integrated in the drill string, to stabilize the drill string by engagement with a borehole wall. The stabilizing members are displaceably mounted on the housing to permit limited angular movement thereof relative to the housing about its rotational axis. The well tool apparatus includes a hydraulic damping mechanism to damp angular displacement of the stabilizing members relative to the housing, thereby damping torsional vibration of the housing and the connected drill string, in use.

摘要： Systems and methods for reducing the amount of torque transferred to the Bottom Hole Assembly and the drill string during drilling operations are disclosed. The drill string includes an optionally non-rotatable portion. A rotational hold down system is positioned at a first position on the drill string where it is not rotationally coupled to the drill string. The rotational hold down system is then moved to a second position on the drill string where it is rotationally coupled to the optionally non-rotatable portion of the drill string. In the second position, one or more bars on the rotational hold down system substantially prevent rotation of the optionally non-rotatable portion of the drill string.

摘要： NMR properties of earth formations are determined using a logging device movable in a borehole. The logging device includes a magnet assembly to generate a static magnetic field and an antenna expandable from the surface of the magnet assembly into the borehole toward the borehole wall to increase the magnetic dipole moment of the antenna. The logging device can be lowered or raised through a drill pipe with the magnet assembly being configured to generate no magnetic field while the device is conveyed within the drill pipe. The logging device may also include a side-looking sensor to acquire fast relaxation component of the NMR signals.

摘要： The low friction wireline standoff improves wireline cable performance during borehole logging operations. The use of low friction wireline standoffs ameliorates the effects of wireline cable differential sticking, wireline cable key-seating, and high wireline cable drags, by reducing or eliminating contact of the wireline cable with the borehole wall during the logging operation. The low friction wireline standoff comprises external wheels mounted on two finned half shells that clamp onto the wireline with precision cable inserts which are manufactured to fit a wide range of logging cables. The wheels reduce the cable drag down-hole resulting in lower surface logging tensions, aiding conveyance in deep and deviated wells.
