    • A fire or smoke barrier has a head box, a drum holding a curtain and a bottom bar for weighing the curtain. A stop mechanism includes a series of stops preventing the bottom bar of the curtain from descending. The stops being connected together, and held in non-deployment position. The barrier also includes a release such that in the event of a fire the stops can be withdrawn from their position by pivoting out of the way of the bottom bar either in the plane parallel to the bottom bar, or by rotation about their end to a position 90° to their original position. The release includes a handle to move the stops, and may include a spring to withdraw the stops. In addition the release includes thermal links which fail on temperature rise to allow a spring to move the stops away from the bottom bar resulting in deployment of the curtain.

    • The present invention is directed to a rolling protective shutter having an improved manual drive mechanism. The improved manual drive mechanism may include a hand crank pole having a female connector that demountably attaches to a male connector of the rolling protective shutter to rotate a drive shaft. The female connector may be attached to the hand crank pole by a universal joint so that the female connector may pivot relative to the hand crank pole. A resilient alignment mechanism, such as an elastomeric sleeve or coil spring, may be disposed on and engage the universal joint to axially align the female connector with the hand crank pole while allowing the female connector to pivot relative to the elongated pole section when a force is applied.

    • A wall opening covering is disclosed. The covering includes a take up member attached to a support assembly. The take up member is rotatable in a first direction and a second direction and the support assembly is configured and arranged to fasten to a wall opening. A lifting member is retained by the take up member. A front panel is suspended in the wall opening and connected to the lifting member. The front panel is movable between a first position and a second position whereby rotation of the take up member in the first direction gathers the lifting member thereby drawing the front panel to the first position and rotation of the take up member in the second direction releases the lifting member thereby drawing the front panel to the second position. The wall opening covering may further include a transmission assembly driving the take up member.
