    • Motion imparting means, comprising first and second assemblies, to effect angular movement of a gate (10) mounted for pivoting motion about an upstanding axis (22). The first assembly includes drive means (65) comprising a magnetic body (15) that (a) has an outer cylindrical surface and radial end surfaces (b) is polarized axially of the cylindrical surface, and (c) has each radial end engaged by an associated pole plate (14,16) that extends outwardly beyond the body's cylindrical surface with its periphery spaced from that cylindrical surface. The second assembly comprises an engagement plate (53) to be attached to the pivoting member (10) and, in use, be engaged by the pole plates (14,16) and magnetically coupled thereto. A lever (34) is provided having the first assembly (65) mounted on one end, the lever being mounted by its opposite end for pivoting motion about an upstanding axis (32) spaced from the pivoting member's pivoting axis (22) and such that said drive means (65) can in use effect a magnetic drive coupling between the first and second assemblies. In one arrangement, one of the pole plates (16) is provided around its periphery with a plurality of mutually spaced protrusions (19) or depressions, and the engagement plate (53) is provided with correspondingly spaced depressions (21) or protrusions, the protrusions (19) of one said plate (16) in use engaging in the depressions (21) of the other said plate (53) to provide a positive inter-engagement between them that resists slippage across magnetically coupled surface portions of the drive means. In another arrangement (FIG. 6), each pole plate (14,16) is of generally disc-like form having a peripheral face of cylindrical form, a radial face directed away from the body, and between these two faces a chamfered face (54,56), and the engagement plate (63) has a surface (55) provided with an elongate groove of triangular or frusto-triangular cross-section providing inclined faces which are in use engaged by and magnetically coupled to the two said outwardly-directed chamfered faces (54,56) of the first assembly.

    • A gate opener (14) is disclosed for attachment to a pre-existing gate (10) mounted for pivotal motion to a post (12). The gate opener includes a controller (30) for activation by an operator from a remote location, such as a vehicle, to transmit a signal of predetermined frequency to a receiver (32) mounted by the gate. The receiver (32) activates a relay to initiate operation of an electric motor (34) to open or close the gate. The rotating motion of the motor shaft is transferred through a set of pulleys (37, 39), a belt (43), gears (48, 54) and a chain (58) to a wheel (38) in contact with the ground. A gate opener (100) forms a second embodiment of the invention. The gate opener (100) is supported by a parallel arm hinge assembly (104) so that substantially the entire weight of the gate opener (100) is supported on the ground (40) through the ground wheel (132) to provide traction to the ground wheel. An open limiter switch (136) and a closed limiter switch (138) cooperate with adjustable contacts (140, 142) to deactivate the motor upon movement of the gate (10) into the opened or closed positions to permit the motor (116) and ground wheel (132) to continue rotation until the gate is either opened or closed.

    • A device for opening and closing a door is provided, with a rolling device having a shell-shaped housing assembled from two complementary housing parts and in which a driving device is arranged, which is connected via a drive shaft to a driving wheel which, in a fitted operating position of the rolling device, is in frictional contact with a rolling surface facing the driving wheel. A fixing body is arranged on a housing part, which together with an opposite fixing body on the other housing part, form a fixed bearing for the drive shaft, each fixing body further having a recess forming a bearing seat for a bearing of the drive shaft. A housing part has linear guide means for connection to corresponding linear guide means of a fastening element. The linear guide means are arranged adjacent to the bearing seat. A method for installing such a device is also provided.
