    • A system for controlling an access opening in a vehicle body includes first and second doors arranged to selectively open and close first and second portions of the opening. The system also includes a power-activated device operatively connected to the first door and configured to be selectively retracted before at least one of the first and second doors is opened. The power-activated device is also configured to be protracted when the first and second doors are closed to thereby seal the first and second portions of the access opening. The system additionally includes a primary energy storage device configured to supply power to the power-activated device. Furthermore, the system includes an auxiliary energy storage device configured to supply back-up power to the power-activated device when the power supplied by the primary energy storage device is interrupted.

    • A motor vehicle side door arrangement has front and rear side doors, end sides of the front and rear side doors facing one another when the doors are closed. The rear side door has a lock arrangement and a door handle that is couplable to the lock arrangement for activation thereby. The lock arrangement has a clutch by which a connection between the locking mechanism and the door handle can be activated and deactivated. A mechanical transmission which can be deflected is connected with the clutch, and deflection of the transmission moves the clutch into a position causing deactivation of the door handle of the rear side door. Deflection of the transmission for deactivating of the rear side door door handle is produced by the front side door engaging the transmission when the front side door is closed with the rear side door already closed.

    • A latch bolt engages a striker to releaseably secure a first door to either a vehicle body or a second door by relative displacement of the latch towards the striker. The latch bolt moves in a first plane to releaseably retain the striker. The assembly includes a first vertical wedge arrangement and a second vertical wedge arrangement that substantially prevent movement between the latch and the striker in a direction parallel to the first plane when in a latched condition. The vertical wedge arrangements include first and second abutment surfaces on the striker arranged engage third and fourth complementary surfaces of the latch. The arrangements are provided laterally either side of a striker bar portion of the striker and laterally either side of the latch bolt.
