    • A latch mechanism comprising a bolt assembly and a striker plate assembly. The bolt assembly itself comprises a bolt housing which is fabricated from a ferrous material. Pivotally connected to the bolt housing is an arm which is moveable between an inward position and an outward position relative to the bolt housing. Slidably attached to the bolt housing is a bolt which itself is moveable between an unlatched position and a latched position relative to the arm. Attached to the bolt is a first magnet, while attached to the bolt housing is a second magnet. The first and second magnets are oriented relative to each other such that the first magnet is magnetically repelled by the second magnet when the bolt is moved to the unlatched position so as to bias the arm to the outward position. The first magnet is magnetically attracted to the bolt housing when the arm is moved to the latched position so as to draw the arm to the inward position.

    • It would be beneficial to have a means for securing a door or portal, or for opening a door or portal such that it cannot be opened from the other side, in which the securing means could be operated without the use of the person's hands. Latching system 250 comprises latching device 255 and receiving device 265. Latching device 255 may be movably attached to door 220, preferably at the bottom of door 220 and latching device 255 is used to secure door 220 to door frame member 205. Latching system 250 is located substantially near the bottom of door 220 so that it may be operated by means of a person's foot. Receiving device 265 is affixed to door frame member 205. Receiving device 265 is configured to receive latching device 255 when latching device 255 is rotated towards receiving device 265.

    • A control unit for an elevator installation comprises a cover and a base. The control unit further comprises a lock which can lock the cover to the base or release it from the base. The lock comprises a locking bar with a magnet, wherein this locking bar is movable back and forth between a closed position and an open position by movement of a magnetic lock on a surface of the cover. The locking bar with the magnet is stabilized in the closed position by a first magnetic element and the cover is locked. The locking bar with the magnet is stabilized in the open position by a second magnetic element and the cover is released.

    • A lock is applied in an electronic device including a main body and a display. The display includes a first hook able to pass through the main body. The lock includes a base, a rack, a shaft and a gear. The rack is slidably connected to the base and includes a second hook. The shaft is secured to the base. The gear is rotatably connected to the shaft and engages the rack. The gear defines a latching slot to receive a portion of a key, which allows the gear to rotate together with the key to cause the rack to slide. The second hook is moveable together with the rack to a position where the second hook engages the first hook to lock the display to the main body. An electronic device using the lock is also provided.
