    • The apparatus comprises two basins (1 and 2), baskets (3) which rotate in the interior of the basins. The baskets support loaders (4) which carry the reels. The loaders are actuated by a carousel conveyor (10) which is guided in its movement upwardly and downwardly by a central column (13). The carousel conveyor may rotate an 180.degree. angle. The apparatus permits loading of the reels with yarns to be treated and unloading of reels having yarns which have alreadly been treated, thus eliminating the dead time of the different phases of operation. The apparatus is hydraulically operated, including the motion of the baskets (3) actuated by motor (18) by means of the hydraulic gearbox and electric control panel (26). The latter controls automatically by means of a logical circuit all the necessary operations for good functioning of the apparatus.

    • Repeatable and reliable chemical treatment for loose fibers is achieved by spraying or immersing loose fibers in a chemical treatment bath, and continuously moving the soaked fibers through a continuous centrifuge. The continuous centrifuge controls the wet pickup of the chemical formulation on the fibers and assures a substantially even chemical distribution on the centrifuged fibers. The centrifuged fibers may be dried to fix the chemicals in the chemical formulation to the fibers and/or to remove water from the chemical formulation. Recycling of the chemical formulation from the continuous centrifuge allows for the process to be performed more economically and in a more environmentally friendly fashion.

A device for centrifuging a yarn package S. e.g. in a dying operation comprises a basket for the package which consists of a ring 18 joined by arms 20 to a lower package support 21 secured to a hub 22 and which can be fitted in driving engagement over a driven central tube 1, a plurality of package engaging levers 25 each having a radially extending slot 26 engaged by a pin 24 mounted on the basket so that the levers may pivot and move bodily in a radial direction, and a stationary ring 27 surrounding said basket to restrict outward pivotal movement of the levers. The device is surrounded by a baffle 8 closed at the bottom and provided at the top with a ring 9 which may be engaged by the outer portion 10 of a lid. A sleeve 11 is set in the lid and engages the central tube 1 when the lid is-put into place. Sleeve 11 also carries a plate 13 which engages the top of package S when the lid is in position. An intermediate ring 12 in the lid carries diametrically opposed lugs 14 which engage in elongate slots 15 in arms 16 from which the basket 18, 20, 21, 22 is pivotally suspended by pins 17. To remove the package after a centrifuging operation, the lid is first lifted so that lugs 14 slide to the upper ends of slots 15. Further lifting of the lid causes the basket, together with the package to be raised from the baffle 8 and into the position in Fig. 3. not shown, wherein the levers 25 are moved outwardly under the action of springs (not shown) and the basket may be pivoted for removal of the package. A fresh package may then be inserted and the operation repeated. Tube piece 11 may be externally threaded and be engagable by a pneumatically or hydraulically operated lifting device. Tube I and carrier H are perforated to allow passage of liquid to the inside of the package; the tube 1 may have perforations over only a part of its surface so that the package is not uniformly treated.
