摘要： A process for increasing the surface area yield of a tanned hide while improving the surface characteristics of leather resulting from the hide, the invention includes the method steps of freezing the tanned hide or splits from the hide followed by mechanical compression of the hide or splits, such as by biaxial rolling or the like, to substantially increase the yield from a given hide. A hide may be frozen in a planar configuration before splitting, the present process contemplating splitting of the frozen hide prior to mechanical compression to increase useable yield. Alternatively, the hide can be conventionally split followed by optional shaving of the splits with the splits then being frozen and subsequently subjected to mechanical compression according to the invention. The present process also includes apparatus for practice of the process and methodology relating to preconditioning of a hide and to the drying of the compressed splits.

The end supports of the support roller for the lower belt rest on a hydraulically actuated piston which enables this support roller to be displaced towards the other support roller. Two pairs of like bracing members hold the end supports of the support rollers, the bracing members of each pair having one end pivoted to a respective hydraulic cylinder for the pistons and the end supports of the other support roller being detachably fixed to the other bracing member ends. Each pair of bracing members defines a guide for the displacement of the end supports of the support roller for the lower belt. One of the end supports of each support roller is pivotally mounted for pivoting the support rollers in a plane defined by the axes of the support rollers.

The drawing cylinder acts as a driving roller for a rubber conveyor belt wound between the driving roller and an idle roller. The drawing cylinder has a conveying surface and a rubber layer. In each operating configuration, the conveying surface of the rubber conveyor belt is tangent to the engraved spreading cylinder in a point of tangency (P), and the idle roller has a leather-detachment roller having a diameter within the range of 10 and 80 mm.

摘要： In an apparatus wherein an endless band is trained over a stationary guide roll and a stretching roll, and a nut-and-spindle mechanism at the ends of the stretching roll can displace the stretching roll in a plane defined by the axes of the rolls when the band is centered on the rolls, the band is automatically centered by two hydraulic double-acting cylinder-piston units. The first unit displaces either end of the stretching roll in the plane and the second unit simultaneously displaces one end in a plane perpendicular thereto. This displacement is effected in response to a control signal from a sensor adjacent each side edge of the band and tripped when the side edge moves into contact therewith as the band moves out of its centered position. The control signal operates a three-way solenoid valve in a hydraulic control circuit for the cylinder-piston units.

The leather press consists of a shoe whose surface substantially matches the radius of an opposing pressure roll. Moving across the shoe is an endless belt, which is lubricated by a thin film of oil. Between the belt and corresponding pressure roll pass two endless felt belts, which are the means of conveying the leather hides. The nip formed by the shoe press is dramatically longer than a conventional press nip, thereby increasing the dewatering efficiency of the leather press.
