    • The present invention relates to polyester polyols having a hydroxyl number of about 80 to 250, containing reaction products of(a) 54 to 58 mol % of a polyol component and(b) 46 to 42 mol % of a dicarboxylic acid component,characterized in that(a) the polyol component contains (i) about 70 to 90 mol % of a hexane-1,6-diol and (ii) about 10 to 30 mol % of at least one higher valent alcohol selected from trimethylolpropane, glycerol, pentaerythritol and mixtures of these polyols, and(b) the dicarboxylic acid component contains (iii) about 50 to 80 mol % of isophthalic acid, (iv) about 20 to 30 mol % of at least one dicarboxylic acid of the formula HOOC--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --COOH (n=an integer from 2-8) and (v) 0 to about 20 mol % of at least one dicarboxylic acid or at least one dicarboxylic acid anhydride selected from terephthalic acid, phthalic acid, phthalic acid anhydride, tetrahydrophthalic acid, tetrahydrophthalic acid anhydride, hexahydrophthalic acid and hexahydrophthalic acid anhydride.The invention also relates to the use of these polyester polyols as the binder component for two-component polyurethane lacquers containing lacquer polyisocyanates for the production of lacquer coatings on molded plastics parts.

    • One-component baking enamels of polyesters, containing hydroxyl groups, and polyisocyanates, wherein the polyisocyanate component consists of 2-methyl-1,5-diisocyanatopentane (MPDI) having the formula (I): ##STR1## which is blocked totally or partially by .epsilon.-caprolactam or acetoxime, or a mixture of the same with 2-ethyl-1,4-diisocyanatobutane (EBDI) having the formula (II): ##STR2## which is blocked totally or partially by .epsilon.-caprolactam or acetoxime, wherein the diisocyanate mixture of (I) and (II) has about 88 to 99% by weight of (I) and about 12 to 1% by weight of (II) and the free isocyanate (NCO) content is up to about 10% by weight.The one-component baking enamels are suitable for application to metal, glass and plastic objects and exhibit excellent flexibility and weather resistance.

    • A water-activatable adhesive useful for adhering a solar film, polyester (polyethylene terephthalate) film, to glass or to metal substrates. The adhesive comprises the reacted product of (A) gamma-isocyanatopropyltriethoxy silane, containing a free isocyanate (NCO) group, and (B) a thermoplastic polyester formed by reacting (i) a dibasic acid selected from the group consisting of terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and hexahydrophthalic acid, and mixtures thereof, with (ii) a polymethylene glycol of the formula HO(CH.sub.2).sub.x OH where x is an integer from 2 to 10, neopentyl glycol and glycerin, and mixtures thereof, and (iii) an aliphatic dibasic acid selected from the group consisting of those having the formula HOOC(CH.sub.2).sub.n COOH where n is an integer from 1 to 8, and mixtures of such acids, whereby substantially no free NCO remains in the adhesive.Solar film is used for absorbing and/or reflecting solar radiation. Solar film can be a single sheet of polyester dyed sufficiently to absorb the glare of bright sunlight, or it can be a single sheet of polyester, on one side of which a reflective metal (most often aluminum) is deposited in an amount which can be totally reflective or in an amount which still allows visible light transmission and over which a protective coating is deposited, or it can be a laminated structure of the reflective film adhered to a clear or dyed polyester film by which means the reflective metal is sandwiched between two layers of polyester film, or it can be a laminated structure of a reflective film to a polyolefin film.

    • Disclosed is a coating composition rapidly curable at room temperature in the presence of a vaporous tertiary amine catalyst which coating composition is ideally suited for coating reaction injection molded (RIM) urethane parts, upholstery vinyl, and sheet molding compound (SMC). The flexible coating composition of the present invention preferably comprises an aromatic hydroxyl-functional condensation product, a multi-isocyanate curing agent, and a volatile organic solvent therefor. The aromatic hydroxyl functional condensation product is made from (a) a linear aliphatic dibasic acid, (b) a linear aliphatic glycol, (c) a combination of a linear aliphatic glycol and aromatic dicarboxylic acid, and (d) a phenol capping agent. The sum of the methylene groups of the linear aliphatic dibasic acid (a) and linear aliphatic glycol (b) range from between about 10 and 13. For thicker coat ings of the coating composition of the present invention, a desirable post-conditioning thermal treatment is provided to enhance adhesion of the coating composition.
